                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The recent passing of Joe E. Wood of Midland on
 1-2     December 21, 1998, at the age of 67, has brought a great loss to
 1-3     the family and many friends of this esteemed West Texas native; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Mr. Wood was born on October 4, 1931, in Iraan, the
 1-5     son of Arch and Mary Wood; he grew up in North Cowden and was
 1-6     graduated from Odessa High School before entering the U.S. Army and
 1-7     serving overseas in Germany; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, On November 12, 1954, he and his beloved wife,
 1-9     Sheila, were married in Odessa and the two were blessed with four
1-10     children; the family's years together were indeed happy ones,
1-11     filled with much love and many joyful memories, particularly so as
1-12     his family grew to include seven grandchildren and two
1-13     great-grandchildren; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Mr. Wood started his own business, J. E. W.
1-15     Materials Trucking Inc., in 1969, and in 1973 the Woods moved to
1-16     Midland; he was a respected and valued member of the Midland
1-17     chapter of the American Legion, as well as a member of Kelview
1-18     Baptist Church; and
1-19           WHEREAS, The warmth of this fine man will be deeply missed,
1-20     but surely his spirit lives on in the hearts and memories of the
1-21     many people whose lives he touched and it is justly fitting to
1-22     honor his memory at this time; now, therefore, be it
1-23           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
1-24     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Joe E. Wood and
 2-1     extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
 2-2     Sheila Baggett Wood; to his sons, J. E. Wood and Gary Wood; to his
 2-3     daughters, Mitzi Stone and Belinda Barrett; to his brother, Robert
 2-4     A. Wood; to his sister, Mary Jean Carter; to his grandchildren and
 2-5     great-grandchildren; to all his nieces and nephews; and to the many
 2-6     other relatives and friends of this grand Texas gentleman; and, be
 2-7     it further
 2-8           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-9     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-10     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-11     Joe E. Wood.
