R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The wedding anniversary of two outstanding Texans 1-2 who have remained devoted to one another for 40 memorable years is 1-3 indeed an occasion worthy of special recognition; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Tom and Betty Hardin of Austin celebrated their 1-5 wedding anniversary on January 30, 1999, at a dinner party with 1-6 family and friends; and 1-7 WHEREAS, This devoted couple married on January 31, 1959, at 1-8 the First United Methodist Church in Austin, and they have lived in 1-9 the Capital City ever since; through the years, they have shared an 1-10 enduring relationship based on love and respect for each other; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Natives of the Lone Star State, Mrs. Hardin was born 1-12 in Granger and graduated from Granger High School, while Mr. Hardin 1-13 was born in the town of Mason and graduated from Mason High School 1-14 before earning a finance degree from The University of Texas at 1-15 Austin; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Mr. Hardin recently retired after a successful 1-17 career as head of the trademark licensing division at The 1-18 University of Texas System; Mrs. Hardin continues to enjoy her 1-19 impressive tenure as an employee of the state, having worked for 1-20 the house member from Galveston County since 1967; and 1-21 WHEREAS, The Hardins have been blessed with two daughters, 1-22 Elaine, the wife of Doc Arnold, and Suzanne, the wife of Kelly 1-23 Martin, and they are also the proud grandparents of six 1-24 grandchildren, Erin, Jeff, and Kaitlyn Arnold and Travis, Preston, 2-1 and Merritt Martin; and 2-2 WHEREAS, After four decades of companionship, Mr. and 2-3 Mrs. Hardin still cherish their time together; their remarkable 2-4 marriage has produced a fine family and many joyous memories, and 2-5 it is fitting that they be honored at this time; now, therefore, be 2-6 it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-8 Legislature hereby congratulate Tom and Betty Hardin on the 2-9 occasion of their 40th wedding anniversary and extend to them 2-10 sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it 2-11 further 2-12 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-13 prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Hardin as an expression of high regard by 2-14 the Texas House of Representatives.
