R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, On February 25, 1999, Edward F. and Erma Dean Walker
1-2 will celebrate 60 years of marriage, and it is indeed a privilege
1-3 to pay tribute to this noteworthy couple on their diamond
1-4 anniversary; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Joined in matrimony in 1939 at First Baptist
1-6 Parsonage in Brownfield, the Walkers lived briefly in Dallas before
1-7 moving to Houston, their home for more than 50 years, in the early
1-8 1940s; and
1-9 WHEREAS, Their loving union has been blessed with two
1-10 children, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, and
1-11 their strong and lasting marriage is a continual source of pride
1-12 and inspiration for both family and friends; and
1-13 WHEREAS, It was indeed a case of love at first sight for this
1-14 couple, who met while Mr. Walker was home from college helping with
1-15 the harvest at his family's farm near Gomez; their courtship lasted
1-16 three months and they became engaged on December 20, 1938; and
1-17 WHEREAS, The parents of Sylvia Walker Jackson, an educator,
1-18 and State Representative Gary Walker, Mr. and Mrs. Walker have
1-19 proven to be loving and patient parents as well as excellent role
1-20 models for their children; and
1-21 WHEREAS, Mr. Walker retired from Goodyear Tire Company after
1-22 a 33-year career, while Mrs. Walker has been a devoted wife,
1-23 mother, and confidant throughout their 60-year union; both husband
1-24 and wife are respected members of their community and have given
2-1 generously of their time and energy in support of their fellow
2-2 citizens; and
2-3 WHEREAS, The Walkers are individuals of great faith and
2-4 spiritual devotion, as evidenced by their longtime association with
2-5 their church; avid gardeners, they are also members of two senior
2-6 citizens clubs, and their enduring bond has continued to grow
2-7 stronger during the days of their golden years; and
2-8 WHEREAS, For over half a century, Edward and Dean Walker have
2-9 shared a relationship that exemplifies the tenets of matrimony, and
2-10 they are truly worthy of special praise and recognition for their
2-11 longtime union and for their contributions to their community; now,
2-12 therefore, be it
2-13 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-14 Legislature hereby honor Edward F. and Erma Dean Walker on the
2-15 occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary and extend to them
2-16 sincere best wishes for continued happiness in the future; and, be
2-17 it further
2-18 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-19 prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Walker as an expression of high regard by
2-20 the Texas House of Representatives.
