R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, For 45 years, barber Don Hatter of Sweetwater has 1-2 been on the cutting edge of style in this West Texas town, a man as 1-3 beloved for his good humor as his sharp scissors, and his many 1-4 years of service to the people of Sweetwater are indeed worthy of 1-5 special legislative recognition; and 1-6 WHEREAS, A Lone Star native, Mr. Hatter grew up in Hamilton, 1-7 near Comanche, and after graduating from high school attended 1-8 barber's college in Austin; following six months of schooling, he 1-9 earned his barber's certificate and moved to Sweetwater in 1954; 1-10 and 1-11 WHEREAS, When Mr. Hatter began his barbering days a haircut 1-12 was just $1.25 and, thanks to the popularity of the crew cut, 1-13 fairly straightforward, but as hair lengths and styles shift, so 1-14 must a barber's talents and, through the years, this remarkable 1-15 gentleman has cut everything from the old-fashioned razor cut buzz 1-16 to a thoroughly modern modified fade with a Nike swoosh; and 1-17 WHEREAS, For more than two decades, Mr. Hatter has practiced 1-18 his trade in his shop in the Smitty's Pharmacy building, and for 1-19 most of that time he was the sole stylist; recently, however, he 1-20 has added a barbering partner, Rex Harvey, and he will now have 1-21 more time to attend the Mustang football games of which he is such 1-22 a fan; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Mr. Hatter is also celebrating another important 1-24 anniversary this year, his 43rd year of marriage to his cherished 2-1 wife, Lela; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Several generations of Sweetwater residents have 2-3 counted on Don Hatter to cut their hair; his ability, his humor, 2-4 and even his bowl of Super Bubble gum for the kids have been deeply 2-5 appreciated, and it is fitting that he be honored at this time; 2-6 now, therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-8 Legislature hereby honor Don Hatter for his many years of skillful 2-9 service as a barber to the people of Sweetwater and extend to him 2-10 and his wife, Lela, sincere best wishes for continued success and 2-11 happiness; and, be it further 2-12 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-13 prepared for Mr. Hatter as an expression of high regard by the 2-14 Texas House of Representatives.
