R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to join 1-2 citizens from across the Lone Star State in the observance of 1-3 Kidney Day at the State Capitol on February 9, 1999; and 1-4 WHEREAS, The Renal Coalition of Texas and the National Kidney 1-5 Foundation affiliates of Texas are committed to heightening the 1-6 public's awareness of kidney-related problems; the National Kidney 1-7 Foundation is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to prevent 1-8 kidney and urinary tract diseases, improve the health and 1-9 well-being of individuals and families affected by these diseases, 1-10 and increase the availability of organs for transplantation; and 1-11 WHEREAS, In order to achieve these worthy goals, efforts are 1-12 being focused on several objectives: creating adequate support for 1-13 research training, fostering the continuing education of health 1-14 professionals, expanding the scope of patient services and 1-15 community resources, increasing the public's knowledge of kidney 1-16 disease, and monitoring health policy development; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Dedicated volunteers and health professionals work 1-18 in tandem to ensure the finest care for people now afflicted with 1-19 kidney ailments and hope to ultimately prevent this devastating 1-20 disease; current treatment options for patients experiencing end 1-21 stage renal failure include hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and 1-22 organ transplantation, and each of these methods has been developed 1-23 within the past 25 years; and 1-24 WHEREAS, The many individuals associated with the National 2-1 Kidney Foundation have demonstrated compassion and professionalism 2-2 in their efforts to eradicate kidney disease, and in doing so, they 2-3 have been of great benefit to countless Texans; now, therefore, be 2-4 it 2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-6 Legislature hereby recognize February 9, 1999, as Kidney Day at the 2-7 State Capitol and extend to the staff, boards of directors and 2-8 volunteers from the Renal Coalition of Texas and the National 2-9 Kidney Foundation warmest wishes for continued success; and, be it 2-10 further 2-11 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared 2-12 for the Renal Coalition and the affiliates of the National Kidney 2-13 Foundation as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of 2-14 Representatives.
