R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The untimely passing of Jose "Rosie" Longoria on
 1-2     January 23, 1999, at the age of 58, has brought a great loss to the
 1-3     many friends and relatives of this esteemed gentleman; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, A native of Sullivan City, Mr. Longoria moved to
 1-5     Edinburg with his family in 1953 and lived there most of his
 1-6     lifetime; he graduated from Edinburg High School in 1958 and Pan
 1-7     American College in 1965 and was a highly regarded employee with
 1-8     the Austin State Schools, the Texas Department of Human Services,
 1-9     and the office of the Texas attorney general; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Mr. Longoria and his wife of 26 years, Eva R.
1-11     Longoria, enjoyed a strong and supportive relationship and with her
1-12     he was blessed with five children and two grandchildren; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Respected as a dedicated leader in his community,
1-14     Mr. Longoria served on the board of the Rio Grande Red Cross, the
1-15     Hidalgo County Housing Authority, and the Hidalgo County Private
1-16     Industry Council; his civic contributions included participation on
1-17     the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District Board and
1-18     membership on the panel of the First Lutheran Church Council; and
1-19           WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to share the friendship of
1-20     Mr. Longoria will long miss his presence, and he will surely be
1-21     remembered with great affection and admiration for many years to
1-22     come; now, therefore, be it
1-23           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
1-24     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Jose "Rosie" Longoria
 2-1     and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his
 2-2     wife, Eva R. Longoria; to his sons and daughter-in-law, Francisco
 2-3     E. Longoria, David Bernal, and Terry and Cindy Bernal; to his
 2-4     daughters and son-in-law, Margarita E.  Longoria, and Sandra and
 2-5     Rene Borrego; to his grandchildren, Terry Bernal, Jr., and Molly
 2-6     Villarreal; and to the many other friends and relatives of this
 2-7     fine man; and, be it further
 2-8           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-9     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-10     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-11     Jose "Rosie" Longoria.
