R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Marcus Nils "Pat" Mauritz on August 1-2 1, 1998, at the age of 61, brought a great loss to the family and 1-3 friends of this beloved gentleman; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Born in Victoria on October 30, 1936, Mr. Mauritz 1-5 was one of the first members of Boy Scout Troop 135 in Ganado in 1-6 1948; he graduated from Ganado High School and, in 1959, earned a 1-7 bachelor of science degree from Texas A&M University, where he was 1-8 active in Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity; and 1-9 WHEREAS, He served his country with distinction as a member 1-10 of the United States Army and attained the rank of captain; 1-11 following his military service, he began a career as an independent 1-12 cattleman; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Mr. Mauritz was a devoted family man who enjoyed a 1-14 happy and rewarding relationship with his wife of 37 years, Mitzi 1-15 McClung Mauritz; the couple were married on April 29, 1961, in 1-16 Houston, and their union was blessed with three children; and 1-17 WHEREAS, A dedicated community leader, Mr. Mauritz served for 1-18 many years as the Victoria County Republican Party chairman, and he 1-19 maintained an active interest in contributing to the quality of 1-20 life in the Ganado area; he was a long-standing member of St. James 1-21 Lutheran Church and supported scouting and funding for scholarships 1-22 for Ganado-area youth; his ongoing support was exemplified by his 1-23 funding of a College of Agriculture endowed scholarship and a 1-24 permanently endowed 12th Man Scholarship to Texas A&M University; 2-1 and 2-2 WHEREAS, Mr. Mauritz received a number of honors and 2-3 accolades for his charitable efforts; his tributes include a 1994 2-4 Texas A&M University Outstanding Alumnus designation from the 2-5 College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and receipt of the Jackson 2-6 County Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Recognition Award and the 2-7 Texas Rice Industry Outstanding Service Award from the Texas Rice 2-8 Improvement Association; and 2-9 WHEREAS, He was also named a recipient of a special 2-10 recognition award for service "Above and Beyond" by the College of 2-11 Agriculture Development Council of Texas A&M University, and he won 2-12 an Outstanding Service Award for representing the NASULGC Council 2-13 for Agricultural Research, Extension and Teaching; in addition, he 2-14 was selected for the Rotary International Paul Harris Fellowship 2-15 Award; and 2-16 WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to know Marcus Nils "Pat" 2-17 Mauritz will long miss his presence, but his generous spirit will 2-18 live on in the hearts and minds of the many individuals whose lives 2-19 he touched; now, therefore, be it 2-20 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-21 Legislature hereby honor the memory of Marcus Nils "Pat" Mauritz 2-22 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his 2-23 wife, Mitzi Mauritz; to his son and daughter, Nils Patrick Mauritz 2-24 and Madelyn M. Mauritz; to his mother, Helen Mauritz; to his 2-25 sister and brother-in-law, Cookie and Mark Streng; to his brother 2-26 and sister-in-law, D. Charles "Chuck" and Sara Mauritz; and to the 2-27 many other relatives and friends of this esteemed gentleman; and, 3-1 be it further 3-2 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-3 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 3-4 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 3-5 Marcus Nils "Pat" Mauritz.
