R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, On February 12, 1999, Sergeant Major Wilbert Lewis
 1-2     Jenkins will retire from the Texas Army National Guard, concluding
 1-3     more than four decades of dutiful service with that outstanding
 1-4     military organization; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, SGM Jenkins will be recognized by his family,
 1-6     friends, and fellow guard members on February 6, 1999, at a
 1-7     ceremony at Camp Mabry, before his official retirement from active
 1-8     duty; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, A retired postal worker, this exemplary soldier
1-10     enlisted in the Texas Army National Guard on August 22, 1956, thus
1-11     beginning a career that saw him accept and excel in positions of
1-12     ever-greater responsibility; his tenure has included stints with
1-13     the 49th Armored Division, 36th Infantry Division, and Headquarters
1-14     State Area Command, to which he has been assigned for the past 15
1-15     years; and
1-16           WHEREAS, On February 8, 1980, SGM Jenkins completed the
1-17     United States Sergeant Majors Academy at Fort Bliss; throughout his
1-18     career, he has demonstrated professionalism, keen intelligence, and
1-19     technical expertise, wearing his stripes with pride, honor, and
1-20     dignity; and
1-21           WHEREAS, Lewis Jenkins is a true American patriot and hero,
1-22     whose legacy of excellence and superior performance and love of his
1-23     country serve as an example for soldiers and civilians alike, and
1-24     it is indeed a privilege to recognize him on this momentous
 2-1     occasion; now, therefore, be it
 2-2           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-3     Legislature hereby pay tribute to SGM Wilbert Lewis Jenkins on the
 2-4     occasion of his retirement from the Texas Army National Guard and
 2-5     honor him for more than four decades of distinguished service as a
 2-6     member of this elite organization; and, be it further
 2-7           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-8     prepared for SGM Jenkins as an expression of high regard by the
 2-9     Texas House of Representatives.
