                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, A 60th wedding anniversary is truly a cause for
 1-2     celebration, and on June 11, 1999, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Shelhamer
 1-3     will mark one such significant milestone in the company of their
 1-4     family and friends; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Mr. Shelhamer and the former Lois Inez Martin were
 1-6     married on June 11, 1939, in Pampa; their happy and rewarding
 1-7     relationship is blessed with three children, ten grandchildren, and
 1-8     five great-grandchildren; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Born in Eastland County, Mrs. Shelhamer graduated
1-10     from high school in Ralls; she studied at Abilene Christian College
1-11     and continued her academic pursuits at Texas Tech University; in
1-12     1934, she relocated to Pampa and managed bookkeeping
1-13     responsibilities for the Adkission-Gunn Tire Company, which later
1-14     became Gunn-Hinerman Tire Company; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Mr. Shelhamer was born in Sumner County, Kansas; he
1-16     graduated from Winfield High School and attended Southwestern
1-17     College before moving to Pampa in 1936; a valued employee of Murray
1-18     Tool and Supply Company, he served as secretary/treasurer of the
1-19     firm when it later became Beacon Supply Company; and
1-20           WHEREAS, A member of the United States Army Signal Corp
1-21     during World War II, Mr. Shelhamer served his country with
1-22     distinction in the South Pacific theater and attained the rank of
1-23     staff sergeant before he was honorably discharged from the service
1-24     in January, 1947; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, For 51 years, Mrs. Shelhamer has been an influential
 2-2     member of the Twentieth Century Culture Club, of which she is also
 2-3     a past president, and she is active in the Women on Missions group
 2-4     at the First Baptist Church, where she has shared her time and
 2-5     talents as a teacher, committee member, and church secretary; she
 2-6     is a former member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the PTA, where
 2-7     she held leadership roles; and
 2-8           WHEREAS, Mr. Shelhamer is a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason
 2-9     and member of Masonic Lodge 966, having received many honors and
2-10     awards during his association with the organization; a member of
2-11     the board of trustees of Senior Citizens Inc. and a 47-year member
2-12     of the Pampa Rotary Club, he is a former president of both
2-13     organizations; Mr. Shelhamer's generous community service also
2-14     includes his charter membership in Top-of-Texas Knife & Fork Club
2-15     and his continuing support of scouting that earned him the Silver
2-16     Beaver Award; and
2-17           WHEREAS, At the First Baptist Church, Mr. Shelhamer serves
2-18     the congregation  as a deacon, greeter, and secretary for
2-19     Everyman's Bible Class; he has also contributed to his community as
2-20     a former president and board member with both the Pampa school
2-21     district and the Pampa Chamber of Commerce; and
2-22           WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Shelhamer have shared many happy times
2-23     and cherished memories; their commitment to each other and to their
2-24     community is a source of great pride to their family and friends,
2-25     and it is indeed appropriate that they be honored at this time;
2-26     now, therefore, be it
2-27           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 3-1     Legislature hereby congratulate Elmer and Lois Shelhamer on the
 3-2     occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary and extend to them
 3-3     sincere best wishes for continued happiness in the future; and, be
 3-4     it further
 3-5           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 3-6     prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Shelhamer as an expression of high regard
 3-7     by the Texas House of Representatives.
