R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to join
 1-2     citizens from across the Lone Star State in the observance of
 1-3     Texas Women's Alliance Day at the State Capitol on February 10,
 1-4     1999; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Organized in December 1984, the Texas Women's
 1-6     Alliance is a statewide, nonpartisan organization of women leaders
 1-7     whose purpose is to articulate an independent conservative
 1-8     viewpoint and influence public policy in Texas; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Influential women with civic and professional
1-10     experience constitute the alliance's membership, and many of these
1-11     dedicated individuals serve in offices and on state boards and
1-12     commissions; highly knowledgeable regarding many significant issues
1-13     facing Texas, the members conduct in-depth research with the goal
1-14     of providing viable solutions to key decision-makers; and
1-15           WHEREAS, The alliance offers participants the opportunity to
1-16     effect change on important issues, network, and establish
1-17     supportive relationships; regularly scheduled activities include
1-18     regional events hosted by different cities throughout the state,
1-19     encampment weekends for recreation and brainstorming on issues, and
1-20     statewide conferences on issues currently of concern to Texans; and
1-21           WHEREAS, To honor exceptional achievement, the association
1-22     presents its Distinguished Service Award to women who are among the
1-23     finest in their areas of endeavor, and its Excellence in Education
1-24     Award is given to an outstanding middle school principal who has
 2-1     made a significant contribution to improving the quality of
 2-2     education in Texas; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, Expanding their horizons beyond our nation's shores,
 2-4     coalition members have traveled to Spain, Switzerland, Japan,
 2-5     Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Peru, and Mexico on trade and education
 2-6     missions, and they are considering exchange programs with women of
 2-7     other countries on topics such as government, business, and
 2-8     volunteerism; and
 2-9           WHEREAS, The Texas Women's Alliance contributes to the
2-10     betterment of the state by promoting solutions to issues affecting
2-11     all Texans, and in doing so, the organization has been of great
2-12     benefit to countless citizens of the Lone Star State; now,
2-13     therefore, be it
2-14           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-15     Legislature hereby recognize February 10, 1999, as Texas Women's
2-16     Alliance Day at the State Capitol and extend warmest best wishes to
2-17     members of the delegation; and, be it further
2-18           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-19     prepared for the Texas Women's Alliance as an expression of high
2-20     regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
