                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, on Monday, February 8th, 1999, scores of American
 1-2     Red Cross volunteers and staff will visit the Capitol for their
 1-3     biennial Legislative Day; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, the American Red Cross is often the critical first
 1-5     line of defense in emergencies and disasters of all types and sizes
 1-6     all over this state; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, organized in Texas with over fifty area chapters,
 1-8     the American Red Cross provides services to each of this state's
 1-9     254 counties; and
1-10           WHEREAS, the American Red Cross teaches First Aid and CPR to
1-11     more than a quarter of a million people in Texas every year; and
1-12           WHEREAS, the American Red Cross is also the primary
1-13     communications link between members of the armed forces around the
1-14     world and their families back home in Texas; and
1-15           WHEREAS, in 1998, the American Red Cross provided over 15
1-16     million dollars in relief to families in situations ranging from a
1-17     fire that destroys a single house to the devastating October floods
1-18     in Central and South Texas; now therefore be it
1-19           RESOLVED, that the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
1-20     Legislative hereby commend and express its deep gratitude to the
1-21     staff and volunteers of the American Red Cross of Texas for its
 2-1     faithful readiness and longstanding commitment to Texans of all
 2-2     needs, at all times, under any conditions.
