R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, On March 16, 1999, many fine residents of Sansom
 1-2     Park will visit the Capitol to commemorate their city's 50th
 1-3     anniversary and its singular place in Texas history, and this is
 1-4     indeed an occasion worthy of special legislative recognition; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, The city is a small, independent area virtually
 1-6     surrounded by Fort Worth; originally known as Broad View Acres, the
 1-7     area became popular with Fort Worth and River Oaks residents in
 1-8     search of a quieter, more residential housing development; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, But much of the hubbub of neighboring cities did
1-10     follow the new residents, for in the 1940s and 1950s the Jacksboro
1-11     Highway, running out of Fort Worth and straight through Sansom
1-12     Park, was a decidedly salacious and almost lawless stretch of road
1-13     that attracted all the wrong elements for a quiet Texas town; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Despite this, there were some highlights to this
1-15     chaotic period, such as grand restaurants and nightclubs where the
1-16     famous often  performed, including the likes of Benny Goodman,
1-17     Tommy Dorsey, and Frank Sinatra; and
1-18           WHEREAS, A city municipal building was constructed in the
1-19     1950s to house the volunteer fire department, street and sanitation
1-20     offices, and the municipal court; by the 1960s order had been
1-21     restored to Sansom Park and in 1968 an addition to city hall was
1-22     completed, affording the growing fire department more space; and
1-23           WHEREAS, The mayor and city council members still work on a
1-24     volunteer basis, and the current administration has set admirable
 2-1     goals for the city's future growth and development; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, Sansom Park is a small Texas town dedicated to
 2-3     maintaining its unique identity in this grand state, and as
 2-4     residents honor their community's rich history and make plans for
 2-5     an even brighter future, it is truly a pleasure to join with them
 2-6     to commemorate their city's  50th anniversary; now, therefore, be
 2-7     it
 2-8           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th
 2-9     Texas Legislature  hereby welcome the visiting delegation from
2-10     Sansom Park and extend to its residents warmest best wishes on the
2-11     occasion of their city's 50th anniversary of incorporation; and, be
2-12     it further
2-13           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-14     prepared for prominent display in Sansom Park as a commemoration of
2-15     this grand occasion and as an expression of high regard by the
2-16     Texas House of Representatives.
