R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to
 1-2     recognize Citizens Medical Center in Victoria for its role in
 1-3     creating a custom compact disc of classical music to benefit
 1-4     children; and
 1-5           WHEREAS,  Titled "IN HARMONY with our kids' success," the CD
 1-6     presents a collection of classical selections performed by
 1-7     orchestras from throughout the United States; among the selections
 1-8     featured are Mozart's Overture to The Marriage of Figaro, Bach's
 1-9     Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, and Symphony No. 7 in A Major by
1-10     Beethoven; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Beginning in February 1999, Citizens Medical Center
1-12     will distribute the CDs to parents of babies born at the hospital
1-13     as well as area teachers for use in the classroom setting; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Sammie Sue Hendrix coordinated this unique
1-15     initiative for the center and the CD was produced by Sony Music
1-16     with Darryl One, the musical director of the Victoria Symphony
1-17     Orchestra, participating in the selection of compositions featured
1-18     on the CD; and
1-19           WHEREAS, Music is widely believed to improve the ability of
1-20     children to perform in certain areas of endeavor, raising high
1-21     school grade-point averages, college entrance exam scores, and test
1-22     scores for children in reading, language, and math; music is also
1-23     thought to heighten the ability of some people to organize their
1-24     thoughts and to enhance higher brain functions and reasoning
 2-1     abilities; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, This investment may have long-term positive effects
 2-3     on a child's future in the business world as well, for
 2-4     communication skills, the ability to form mental images, and the
 2-5     art of conveying personal ideas are all linked to musical exposure
 2-6     and are essential tools for tomorrow's workforce; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, It is most fitting that Citizens Medical Center be
 2-8     honored for the pivotal role it has played in bringing this
 2-9     impressive community collaboration to fruition; now, therefore, be
2-10     it
2-11           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-12     Legislature hereby commend Citizens Medical Center for its
2-13     commitment to the young people of Victoria and extend to all those
2-14     associated with this worthy venture warmest best wishes for great
2-15     success with this project; and, be it further
2-16           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-17     prepared for Citizens Medical Center as an expression of high
2-18     regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
