R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to 1-2 recognize the significant gains being made in the prevention and 1-3 treatment of cardiovascular disease and stroke among citizens of 1-4 the Lone Star State; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Heart disease is the leading cause of death in 1-6 Texas, and the myriad contributions of medical professionals, 1-7 educators, and volunteers in promoting increased public awareness 1-8 of heart disease and stroke prevention and treatment has 1-9 undoubtedly touched the lives of many people; and 1-10 WHEREAS, With the goal of reducing the number of Texans 1-11 suffering from these health problems, significant efforts are now 1-12 underway to address the modifiable risk factors associated with 1-13 heart disease and stroke, including smoking, high cholesterol, high 1-14 blood pressure, poor nutrition, physical inactivity, and obesity; 1-15 and 1-16 WHEREAS, Citizens throughout Texas are encouraged to become 1-17 more knowledgeable about these modifiable factors as well as the 1-18 nonmodifiable factors and to learn all they can about these issues 1-19 in order to enjoy longer, healthier, more fulfilling lives; now, 1-20 therefore, be it 1-21 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 1-22 Legislature hereby recognize February 11, 1999, as Cardiovascular 2-1 Disease and Stroke Day at the State Capitol and extend best wishes 2-2 to all those individuals who are working so diligently for the 2-3 elimination of these serious health problems.
