                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to
 1-2     congratulate Dorothy McKnight Warner on her 100th birthday, which
 1-3     is indeed a memorable occasion worthy of special praise and
 1-4     recognition; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Born on December 4, 1898, this gracious woman is the
 1-6     daughter of Dr. William Burney McKnight and Sallie Hodges McKnight;
 1-7     her siblings include a sister, Kate McKnight Lattimore, and two
 1-8     brothers, Dr. Hodges McKnight and James McKnight; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Mrs. Warner met her future husband, Don A. Warner,
1-10     at The University of Texas in 1918; a native of Minnesota,
1-11     Mr. Warner was training in the U.S. Army Signal Corps after
1-12     attending Yale University; and
1-13           WHEREAS, The couple married in 1918 and moved to the Rio
1-14     Grande Valley in 1919; they lived in a tent on a 40-acre farm
1-15     before moving to Mercedes, where they acquired and developed a
1-16     successful citrus farm; and
1-17           WHEREAS, A pioneer businesswoman in the Rio Grande Valley,
1-18     Mrs. Warner built a prosperous career in real estate and insurance
1-19     at a time when women rarely even entered the world of business; her
1-20     son, Bill Warner, said his mother's business judgment was so sound,
1-21     "that if she would have been a man, she would have been president
1-22     of General Motors"; and
1-23           WHEREAS, The Warners' loving partnership was blessed with
1-24     four children, Dorothy Warner Griffis, Barbara Warner McCambell,
 2-1     Don Warner, and William P. "Bill" Warner, as well as a number of
 2-2     grandchildren and great-grandchildren; the welfare and success of
 2-3     Mrs. Warner's family continues to be her top priority; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, For 100 years, Dorothy McKnight Warner has lived a
 2-5     full life as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and
 2-6     great-grandmother; she has achieved success as a  businesswoman and
 2-7     as a human being who is cherished by her family and many friends;
 2-8     now, therefore, be it
 2-9           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-10     Legislature hereby congratulate Dorothy McKnight Warner on the
2-11     occasion of her 100th birthday and extend to her sincere best
2-12     wishes for continued happiness in the future; and, be it further
2-13           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-14     prepared for Mrs. Warner as an expression of high regard by the
2-15     Texas House of Representatives.
