R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The students, faculty, and staff of Dellview
 1-2     Elementary School consistently strive to meet the highest academic
 1-3     standards in a nurturing school environment, and their dedication
 1-4     to excellence in education has been deservedly recognized and
 1-5     rewarded; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Guided by principal Belinda Lopez, Dellview
 1-7     Elementary School is a member of the North East Independent School
 1-8     District in San Antonio; most of its 531 prekindergarten to
 1-9     fifth-grade students represent minority populations; 85 percent are
1-10     considered "at risk" and nearly three-fourths of the student body
1-11     is classified as economically disadvantaged; and
1-12           WHEREAS, By maintaining high expectations and a
1-13     results-oriented focus, the Dellview team, led by Ms. Lopez and
1-14     composed of staff, students, parents, and volunteers, has worked
1-15     together in a spirit of support, compassion, and confidence to
1-16     achieve remarkable results; and
1-17           WHEREAS, This exceptional school has been rated "exemplary"
1-18     by the Texas Education Agency; to reach this level, at least 90
1-19     percent of students must pass in each subject area and the school
1-20     must reach a 94 percent attendance rate; and
1-21           WHEREAS, In 1997, the school was designated one of 12
1-22     "Spotlight in Reading" schools in Texas by Governor George W. Bush
1-23     and the Texas Education Agency; special attention is consistently
1-24     focused on reading at Dellview, and many teachers and
 2-1     administrators from throughout the state have visited the school to
 2-2     learn how they may implement this creative program at their own
 2-3     schools; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, The perseverance, commitment, and determination of
 2-5     the children and adults of Dellview Elementary School are an
 2-6     inspiration to all Texans, and the academic preparation received by
 2-7     Dellview students will undoubtedly enable them to achieve success
 2-8     in the future; now, therefore, be it
 2-9           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-10     Legislature hereby commend the students, administrators, staff, and
2-11     parents from Dellview Elementary School and extend to each of them
2-12     warmest best wishes for many more years of continued success; and,
2-13     be it further
2-14           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-15     prepared for Dellview Elementary School as an expression of high
2-16     regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
