R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
 1-2     12-year-old Joey Fino, a true Texas hero, for displaying bravery
 1-3     and quick thinking to save the life of a friend; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, A sixth-grader at Washington-Jackson Math Science
 1-5     Center in Wichita Falls, Joey learned the Heimlich maneuver in his
 1-6     health class on January 27, 1999; that night, he used the newly
 1-7     acquired skill to save the life of a choking friend; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, Joey was seated next to his 16-year-old friend,
 1-9     Jose, in a youth class at church; Jose, who was eating tiny pieces
1-10     of candy, suddenly began coughing, clutching his throat, and
1-11     turning blue; and
1-12           WHEREAS, Resisting panic and recalling the steps of the
1-13     procedure he learned earlier that day, Joey first asked Jose if he
1-14     wanted help, assisted him to his feet, and correctly performed the
1-15     technique, which restored his friend's breathing; and
1-16           WHEREAS, Joey was the only person of the two dozen young
1-17     people and adults at the church who knew the life-saving technique;
1-18     he plans to continue being attentive in health class to help
1-19     prepare for his chosen career as a physician; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Joey Fino's courage and immediate response in the
1-21     face of life-threatening danger serve as an inspiration to
1-22     individuals everywhere, and it is indeed appropriate that he be
1-23     honored at this time; now, therefore, be it
1-24           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-1     Legislature hereby honor Joey Fino for his heroic actions and
 2-2     extend to him warmest best wishes for continued success and
 2-3     happiness; and, be it further
 2-4           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-5     prepared for Mr. Fino as an expression of highest regard from the
 2-6     Texas House of Representatives.
