By Madden H.R. No. 181 76R5976 JBR-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Carl W. Riehn on November 20, 1998, 1-2 at the age of 65, brought a great loss to the family and many 1-3 friends of this esteemed gentleman; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Mr. Riehn served as executive director of the North 1-5 Texas Municipal Water District until his retirement on May 1, 1998; 1-6 he had been in that position for more than 28 years, and under his 1-7 direction the district grew from an agency with 30 employees 1-8 serving approximately 160,000 customers to an agency with 274 1-9 employees serving more than 860,000 customers; and 1-10 WHEREAS, With the help of Mr. Riehn's visionary leadership, 1-11 the district magnified its role as a steward of water quality and 1-12 the environment by implementing sewage treatment and solid waste 1-13 disposal services for the 29 regional cities within the district; 1-14 and 1-15 WHEREAS, Mr. Riehn played a vital role in the establishment 1-16 of Cooper Lake in East Texas, the enlargement of Lake Lavon, and 1-17 the acquisition of water rights from Lake Texoma, and his skillful 1-18 planning has ensured water availability to the area for years to 1-19 come; his efforts in securing an abundant water supply were 1-20 extended beyond retirement through his role as chairman of the 1-21 Region C Water Planning Group, which manages water issues for the 1-22 majority of north central Texas; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to share the friendship 1-24 and love of Carl Riehn will long miss his presence and guidance, 2-1 for his untimely passing has deprived them of a special individual, 2-2 and he will surely be remembered with great affection and 2-3 admiration for many years to come; now, therefore, be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-5 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Carl W. Riehn and 2-6 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family and to the 2-7 many friends of this respected gentleman; and, be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-9 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-10 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-11 Carl W. Riehn.
