R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, McKinney Justice of the Peace Glen Swaner has
1-2 retired after 20 years on the bench and many more in law
1-3 enforcement, and his dedication and dutiful service are indeed
1-4 worthy of special legislative recognition; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Judge Swaner is a lifelong resident of Collin
1-6 County; he was born in Wylie and moved to McKinney in 1965 to begin
1-7 his career as a deputy for Sheriff J. S. "Red" Hand; and
1-8 WHEREAS, His many years as a respected and valued deputy
1-9 served him well when he was appointed to fill a vacancy in the
1-10 Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace position in 1978; the following
1-11 year he stood for election and held the seat until his retirement;
1-12 and
1-13 WHEREAS, Judge Swaner's longstanding open-door policy has
1-14 benefited countless citizens seeking advice or counsel on legal
1-15 questions; helping to guide people who might not have been able to
1-16 afford an attorney through the legal maze was the most rewarding
1-17 aspect of his role as a justice of the peace; and
1-18 WHEREAS, Testament to the respect and affection the people of
1-19 McKinney have for Judge Swaner was the memorable reception that was
1-20 held in his honor just prior to his retirement; and
1-21 WHEREAS, While his experience, good humor, and wise counsel
1-22 will be deeply missed at the courthouse, his retirement opens up
1-23 new opportunities for this esteemed Texan, and in light of his many
1-24 years of service as both deputy and justice of the peace it is
2-1 indeed appropriate to honor him at this time; now, therefore, be it
2-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-3 Legislature hereby commend Justice of the Peace Glen Swaner on the
2-4 occasion of his retirement and extend to him warmest best wishes
2-5 for happiness and success in the years ahead; and, be it further
2-6 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-7 prepared for Judge Swaner as an expression of high regard by the
2-8 Texas House of Representatives.
