                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, During his 14 years as president of Collin County
 1-2     Community College District, Dr. John H. Anthony has established a
 1-3     legacy of academic excellence that is truly worthy of special
 1-4     praise and recognition; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, A Plano resident, Dr. Anthony is a proud graduate of
 1-6     Susquehanna University and received his master's and doctor's
 1-7     degrees from Temple University; he was selected as founding
 1-8     president of Collin County Community College District after serving
 1-9     as president of Los Angeles, Cayuga, and Portland community
1-10     colleges from 1973 to 1985; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Collin County Community College District was
1-12     established in 1985 and under Dr. Anthony's guidance has grown to
1-13     become the ninth-largest community college in Texas, boasting many
1-14     cutting-edge programs and services and an innovative
1-15     student-centered curriculum; and
1-16           WHEREAS, Dr. Anthony is a truly respected and beloved figure
1-17     among the district's faculty, staff, and students and the Collin
1-18     County community, and throughout his tenure as president he has
1-19     earned a well-deserved reputation as a nurturing, understanding,
1-20     and caring man who endeavors to help all those around him maintain
1-21     a positive attitude about themselves and their work; and
1-22           WHEREAS, In addition to leading one of the largest community
1-23     college districts in Texas, Dr. Anthony also contributes his
1-24     leadership abilities as president of the Texas Association of
 2-1     Community Colleges, as commissioner on the Commission of Colleges,
 2-2     Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, as a board member of
 2-3     the Alliance for Higher Education, and as a member and past
 2-4     president of the Association of Texas Colleges and Schools; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, Drawing strength and inspiration from his wife,
 2-6     Carole, and his three children, John, Lisa, and Kim, Dr. Anthony
 2-7     has also made impressive contributions to his community; he has
 2-8     served as past chair of the Medical Center of Plano, on the
 2-9     McKinney Economic Development Council, and on the Plano Economic
2-10     Development Board, and as an advisory board member for the Junior
2-11     League of Plano, the Plano Chamber of Commerce, and the Plano
2-12     Chamber Orchestra; and
2-13           WHEREAS, For his many years as an esteemed educator and
2-14     academic visionary it is indeed fitting that we pay tribute to him
2-15     at this time; now, therefore, be it
2-16           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-17     Legislature hereby honor Dr. John H. Anthony for his 14
2-18     distinguished years of service as the president of Collin County
2-19     Community College District and extend to him sincere best wishes
2-20     for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
2-21           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-22     prepared for Dr.  Anthony as an expression of high regard by the
2-23     Texas House of Representatives.
