                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, On March 3, 1999, Texas native and two-time Oscar
 1-2     winner Will Jennings will be honored at his alma mater, Stephen F.
 1-3     Austin State University, with "Will Jennings Day at SFA," and his
 1-4     success and world-renown are indeed worthy of special legislative
 1-5     recognition; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Mr. Jennings grew up in the oil fields around Tyler
 1-7     and earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees at SFA; his
 1-8     talent in music and poetry have led to a highly successful career
 1-9     as a songwriter and lyricist; and
1-10           WHEREAS, His most recent hit has broken records around the
1-11     world and will no doubt echo from stereos for years to come: "My
1-12     Heart Will Go On (Love Theme from Titanic)," with vocals by Celine
1-13     Dion, has sold millions of copies and won both an Oscar and a
1-14     Golden Globe in 1998 for best song from a motion picture; and
1-15           WHEREAS, This talented Texan also won an Oscar and a Golden
1-16     Globe for his work on An Officer and a Gentleman, whose theme song
1-17     became a number one hit for its performers, Joe Cocker and Jennifer
1-18     Warnes; and
1-19           WHEREAS, In addition to winning a Grammy award for his work
1-20     with Eric Clapton on the single "Tears in Heaven," Mr. Jennings has
1-21     written numerous best-selling songs, with 15 singles  certified as
1-22     one-, two-, or three-million-play songs by BMI; he has worked with
1-23     artists ranging from Mr. Clapton and Steve Winwood to B. B. King
1-24     and Joe Sample to Roy Orbison and Jimmy Buffett; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, It is always a pleasure to honor an individual who
 2-2     has achieved success and prominence on so many levels as has Will
 2-3     Jennings, and it is indeed a privilege to join the faculty, staff,
 2-4     and students of Stephen F. Austin State University in paying
 2-5     tribute to him at this time; now, therefore, be it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-7     Legislature hereby commemorate March 3, 1999, as "Will Jennings Day
 2-8     at SFA" and extend to Mr. Jennings, his wife, Carole, and all those
 2-9     associated with the event warmest best wishes for even greater
2-10     success and happiness in the future; and, be it further
2-11           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-12     prepared for Mr. Jennings as a remembrance of this grand occasion
2-13     and an expression of high regard by the Texas House of
2-14     Representatives.
