R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of the Honorable G. C. Morris on August 1-2 16, 1997, at the age of 85, brought a great loss to the family and 1-3 many friends of this esteemed individual; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A native of Greenville, Senator Morris was elected 1-5 to the Texas House of Representatives in 1934 at the age of 22; he 1-6 served the citizens of Hunt County during the 44th, 45th, 46th, and 1-7 47th Texas Legislatures as a member of the house before being 1-8 elected to the senate in 1942; and 1-9 WHEREAS, While a member of the senate, this dedicated public 1-10 servant represented the citizens of Collin, Hunt, Rains, and 1-11 Rockwall counties for three consecutive terms; president pro-tem of 1-12 the senate when Governor Beauford Jester passed away in 1949, 1-13 Senator Morris became acting lieutenant governor and served in that 1-14 capacity until 1951; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Outside the political arena, Senator Morris was the 1-16 chief executive officer of the Automotive Wholesalers of Texas 1-17 until his retirement in 1990; throughout both his political and 1-18 professional careers, friends and colleagues greatly admired him 1-19 for his honesty and integrity; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to share the friendship of 1-21 G. C. Morris will long miss his presence, and he will surely be 1-22 remembered with great affection and admiration for many years to 1-23 come; now, therefore, be it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-1 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of the Honorable G. C. 2-2 Morris and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: 2-3 to his wife, Dorothy McClurg Morris; to his daughter and 2-4 son-in-law, Nancy and Larry Stephens; to his grandchildren, Michael 2-5 and Rachael; and to the many other relatives and friends of this 2-6 fine man; and, be it further 2-7 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-8 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-9 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-10 the Honorable G.
