No. 225 76R6020 JBR-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Plano's Joseph George Friedlein on 1-2 June 19, 1998, at the age of 66, brought a great loss to the family 1-3 and many friends of this beloved gentleman; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Born in Plainfield, New Jersey, on February 22, 1-5 1932, Mr. Friedlein was a graduate of North Plainfield High School; 1-6 he graduated from Newark College of Engineering, with honors, in 1-7 1957, and he earned a master's degree in business administration 1-8 from Lynchburg College in 1974; and 1-9 WHEREAS, In 1993, Mr. Friedlein retired from ALCATEL after 19 1-10 years of service, which followed 17 years of employment with 1-11 General Electric Company; this patriotic man served in the U.S. 1-12 Navy on the destroyer Fred T. Berry, and was a veteran of the 1-13 Korean War; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Mr. Friedlein was involved in community service and 1-15 local politics and supported his beliefs through membership with 1-16 the Republican Men's Club and St. Elizabeth Seton Men's Club; and 1-17 WHEREAS, This devoted family man enjoyed a strong and loving 1-18 relationship with his wife of 40 years, Matilda "Mattie" Friedlein, 1-19 and was known affectionately as "Pop Pop" by his grandchildren; he 1-20 enjoyed playing tennis, gardening, fishing, reading, and traveling; 1-21 and 1-22 WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to share the love and 1-23 friendship of Joseph George Friedlein will long miss his presence, 1-24 and he will surely be remembered with great affection and 2-1 admiration for many years to come; now, therefore, be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th 2-3 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Joseph George 2-4 Friedlein and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: 2-5 to his wife, Matilda "Mattie" Mary Starace Friedlein; to his son 2-6 and daughter-in-law, Joseph George Friedlein II and Lori Friedlein; 2-7 to his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Fred Smith; to his 2-8 grandchildren, Taylor Jordan and Kendall Deanne Smith; and to the 2-9 many other people whose lives were touched by this fine man; and, 2-10 be it further 2-11 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-12 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-13 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-14 Joseph George Friedlein.
