R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Lake Highlands High School seniors Anne Jernberg and 1-2 Chris Tomlinson have been selected as Youth of the Month for 1-3 January 1999 by the Exchange Club of Lake Highlands, and these 1-4 exemplary students are truly deserving of special recognition for 1-5 their many accomplishments; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Each month, the Exchange Club of Lake Highlands 1-7 recognizes two seniors from Lake Highlands High School for 1-8 superlative academic achievement and noteworthy extracurricular 1-9 involvement; these deserving individuals receive U.S. Savings Bonds 1-10 and are made eligible for college scholarships to supplement the 1-11 costs of continuing their education; and 1-12 WHEREAS, A three-year member of the National Honor Society 1-13 and Mu Alpha Theta, Ms. Jernberg excels not only in her academic 1-14 pursuits but also in her many musical and theatrical endeavors; she 1-15 is the keyboardist for the pop vocal ensemble Espree, sings in both 1-16 the A Capella and Women's choirs, and has performed in numerous 1-17 school productions, including Guys and Dolls and My Fair Lady; and 1-18 WHEREAS, This talented and committed young woman also 1-19 performs in the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra and devotes her time 1-20 and energy to several community service activities, such as 1-21 volunteering at the Blanton Gardens Nursing Home and the Wilkinson 1-22 Community Center of East Dallas; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Mr. Tomlinson is a 1998-1999 National Merit Scholar 1-24 and a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta; his 2-1 academic achievement is matched only by his athletic prowess, 2-2 particularly on the tennis court, where he is captain of the 2-3 varsity tennis team; and 2-4 WHEREAS, This commendable individual is also active in 2-5 student government and currently serves as treasurer of the Lake 2-6 Highlands High School Student Council; he is a longtime member of 2-7 Young Life and a former vice president of the Fellowship of 2-8 Christian Athletes, and he is an energetic and enthusiastic 2-9 volunteer at Northlake Elementary School, where he tutors 2-10 youngsters once a week; and 2-11 WHEREAS, The Youth of the Month Award helps to affirm the 2-12 positive and productive civic, academic, and extracurricular 2-13 participation of the young people of Lake Highlands High School, 2-14 and it is indeed a privilege to recognize the merits of this award 2-15 and to pay tribute to the deserving students who are selected to 2-16 receive it; now, therefore, be it 2-17 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-18 Legislature hereby congratulate Anne Jernberg and Chris Tomlinson 2-19 on being named Youth of the Month for January 1999 by the Exchange 2-20 Club of Lake Highlands and extend to them best wishes for continued 2-21 success and happiness in all their future endeavors; and, be it 2-22 further 2-23 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-24 prepared for Ms. Jernberg and Mr. Tomlinson as an expression of 2-25 high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
