                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The 70th birthday of a notable Texan is indeed an
 1-2     occasion worthy of special recognition, and on January 21, 1999,
 1-3     Dr. Billy Bob Alexander of Eastland will celebrate this memorable
 1-4     milestone; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Born in Anson on January 21, 1929, Dr. Alexander is
 1-6     a graduate of Gordon High School; he earned a bachelor of science
 1-7     degree, with honors, from the College of Pharmacy at The University
 1-8     of Texas at Austin and a doctorate, with honors, from The
 1-9     University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, and proudly served
1-10     his country in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958, ultimately
1-11     achieving the rank of captain; and
1-12           WHEREAS, Dr. Alexander established a private medical practice
1-13     in Eastland in 1958, and through the years he has delivered
1-14     countless babies and has earned the respect and admiration of
1-15     generations of Eastland residents for the compassion and concern he
1-16     shows each of his patients; his leadership in the medical community
1-17     is evidenced by his membership on the Eastland Memorial Hospital
1-18     Board and his service to the Callahan, Eastland, Shackelford,
1-19     Stephens, and Throckmorton--Five County Area Medical Society, of
1-20     which he is a former president; and
1-21           WHEREAS, This noteworthy gentleman has received many
1-22     accolades through the years, including the Eastland Man of the Year
1-23     award and the Golden Deed Award from the Eastland Chamber of
1-24     Commerce; these awards acknowledge the generous work done by
 2-1     Dr. Alexander in behalf of his community, such as his tenure as
 2-2     president of the Eastland Independent School District Board from
 2-3     1962 until 1968, during which time local elementary schools were
 2-4     consolidated and Siebert Elementary School was built; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, A man of devotion, Dr. Alexander is an active member
 2-6     of the First Christian Church and has served as a deacon and as
 2-7     president of the church's board; the dedicated father of six
 2-8     children, he has provided for their college education and is
 2-9     affectionately known as "Pop" to his eight grandchildren and one
2-10     great-grandchild; and
2-11           WHEREAS, Among his many interests are a love for woodworking,
2-12     spending time with his family, playing golf, cheering for the Texas
2-13     Longhorns, and jogging; in fact, he jogged six miles on his 60th
2-14     birthday; and
2-15           WHEREAS, This fine man has long devoted himself to his
2-16     family, his church, and his community; in doing so he has touched
2-17     the lives of many people, and it is truly appropriate that he be
2-18     honored at this time; now, therefore, be it
2-19           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-20     Legislature hereby honor Dr. Billy Bob Alexander on the momentous
2-21     occasion of his 70th birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes
2-22     for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
2-23           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-24     prepared for Dr.  Alexander as an expression of high regard by the
2-25     Texas House of Representatives.
