                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The untimely passing of Phillip Wayne Dean on
 1-2     February 15, 1999, at the age of 29, has brought a great loss to
 1-3     the many friends and relatives of this courageous Fort Worth
 1-4     firefighter; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, A native and lifelong resident of Fort Worth,
 1-6     Mr. Dean attended The University of Texas at Arlington, where he
 1-7     attained a bachelor's degree in criminal justice in 1992; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, Mr. Dean joined the Fort Worth Fire Department after
 1-9     graduation and was also a volunteer with the River Oaks Fire
1-10     Department; an exemplary member of his profession, he took
1-11     tremendous satisfaction in protecting the lives and property of his
1-12     fellow citizens; and
1-13           WHEREAS, While battling to extinguish a devastating fire at
1-14     the Precious Faith Temple in Lake Worth, this heroic individual
1-15     gave his life in the line of duty along with two of his fellow
1-16     firefighters who had also responded to the emergency; and
1-17           WHEREAS, Phillip Dean was a man of rare courage and
1-18     dedication, and although  his inspirational presence is gone from
1-19     us now his remarkable spirit and legacy of self-sacrifice will
1-20     surely live on in the hearts of the many people whose lives he
1-21     touched during his time on this earth; now, therefore, be it
1-22           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
1-23     Legislature pay special tribute to the life of Phillip Wayne Dean
1-24     and sincere sympathy be extended to the members of his family: to
 2-1     his wife, Renea Dean; to his parents, Charles and Genie Dean; to
 2-2     his sisters and brother-in-law, Lori Dean and Cheryl and Gregg
 2-3     Lopez; to his grandmothers, Ella Greer and Joyce Greer; to his
 2-4     nephew, Garrett Lopez; and to his niece, Jordan Lopez; and to his
 2-5     fellow firefighters; and, be it further
 2-6           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-7     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
 2-8     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
 2-9     Phillip Wayne Dean.
