R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The friends and family of Garry Charles Sanders were 1-2 greatly saddened by his untimely passing on February 15, 1999, at 1-3 the age of 20, and we join them in mourning their tragic loss; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Born November 25, 1978, Mr. Sanders was a former 1-5 student at Castleberry High School and served one year with the 1-6 Civil Air Patrol; he worked as a welder for Custom Commercial 1-7 Coolers in Fort Worth and, along with his older brother Steven, was 1-8 a devoted volunteer firefighter for the Sansom Park Volunteer Fire 1-9 Department; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Called into action to battle the blaze at Precious 1-11 Faith Temple in Lake Worth, Mr. Sanders and two other men were on 1-12 the church's roof when it collapsed and trapped them in the flames 1-13 of the burning rubble, a dire situation that proved inescapable and 1-14 prematurely ended the lives of these three brave firefighters; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Mr. Sanders was a beloved community leader, and his 1-16 dedication to others was exemplified by his participation in the 1-17 Sansom Park Volunteer Fire Department; although his life was 1-18 tragically cut short, his memory will continue to live on in the 1-19 hearts and minds of the many people whose lives he touched; now, 1-20 therefore, be it 1-21 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 1-22 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Garry Charles Sanders 1-23 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his 1-24 mother, Pat Dunn; to his father, Sidney Sanders; to his brothers, 2-1 Michael and Steven Sanders; to his grandparents, Jim and Lucille 2-2 McMenemy and Pirlie Dunn; to his girlfriend, Shauna Gorman; and to 2-3 his many other friends and relatives; and, be it further 2-4 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-5 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-6 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-7 Garry Charles Sanders.
