                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Duncanville Panthers pulled off a remarkable win
 1-2     against the Converse Judson Rockets to claim the 1998 Class 5A
 1-3     Division I high school football state championship, and this
 1-4     outstanding team achievement is truly deserving of special
 1-5     recognition; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Head Coach Bob Alpert and his coaching staff ably
 1-7     prepared the Panthers for their battle against perennial state
 1-8     power Converse Judson; in a game characterized by stellar special
 1-9     teams play and solid defensive effort, quarterback Jeremy Hurd
1-10     skillfully guided the Duncanville offense, as receiver Cotis Martin
1-11     nabbed the tying touchdown pass and kicker Travis Hale sealed the
1-12     win with the go-ahead field goal late in the game; and
1-13           WHEREAS, This thrilling game saw Duncanville fall behind 21-7
1-14     in the third quarter but quickly answer with a Nick Howard 89-yard
1-15     kickoff return for a touchdown; the rejuvenated Panthers proceeded
1-16     to score 10 more unanswered points en route to a 24-21 victory and
1-17     a state title; and
1-18           WHEREAS, Achieving such a lofty goal required each of the
1-19     team's talented athletes to perform to the utmost of their
1-20     abilities; this triumph is an apt reflection of the team's
1-21     dedication and competitive spirit and is an appropriate culmination
1-22     of many hours of hard work and training; and
1-23           WHEREAS, The young champions of the Duncanville Panthers
1-24     football team have distinguished themselves as formidable
 2-1     competitors, and as they take pride and satisfaction in their state
 2-2     championship, it is indeed fitting to pay tribute to them for their
 2-3     impressive accomplishment; now, therefore, be it
 2-4           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-5     Legislature hereby honor the Duncanville Panthers on their Class 5A
 2-6     Division I high school football state championship and extend to
 2-7     them sincere best wishes for continued success in the years to
 2-8     come; and, be it further
 2-9           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-10     prepared for Head Coach Bob Alpert and the Duncanville Panthers as
2-11     a token of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
