R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Ashley Millet has achieved great success as a 1-2 spokesperson against substance abuse, and her inspirational example 1-3 is indeed worthy of special recognition; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A 15-year-old Houston native, she began an anti-drug 1-5 abuse campaign in her hometown and hopes to broaden the scope of 1-6 her initiative to the national level; and 1-7 WHEREAS, During Red Ribbon Week in October 1998, Ms. Millet 1-8 received a well-deserved award from the Drug Enforcement Agency, 1-9 Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Marshals Service, Bureau of 1-10 Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, U.S. Attorney, Houston Crackdown 1-11 Office of the Mayor, and other drug enforcement agencies in 1-12 recognition of her achievements; and 1-13 WHEREAS, In an attempt to reach students through the 1-14 universal medium of music, this multi-talented young woman recorded 1-15 a song called "Hooked on Life," and she is also a national 1-16 spokesperson for the "Hooked on Life" Campaign; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Ms. Millet is visiting Austin on February 22-26, 1-18 1999, as a member of TeenPact and, during her stay in the Capitol 1-19 City, she hopes to learn more about the governmental process; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Drug abuse is one of the most serious problems 1-21 facing today's youth, and Ashley Millet's continuing efforts to 1-22 educate young Texans on this vital issue are truly deserving of 1-23 commendation and praise; now, therefore, be it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-1 Legislature hereby commend Ashley Millet for her outstanding 2-2 efforts to combat substance abuse and extend to her warmest best 2-3 wishes for an enjoyable visit to the State Capitol; and, be it 2-4 further 2-5 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-6 prepared for Ms. Millet as an expression of high regard by the 2-7 Texas House of Representatives.
