                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The city of Dallas has lost one of its most valued
 1-2     citizens with the passing of Terry Royce Griffin on February 16,
 1-3     1999, at the age of 57; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, This native Texan was born on December 8, 1941, in
 1-5     the town of Mt.  Enterprise and graduated from Texas A&M University
 1-6     with an electrical engineering degree in 1964; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, Mr. Griffin began his 35-year tenure with Texas
 1-8     Utilities subsidiary Dallas Power and Light Company the same year
 1-9     he graduated, and he was employed in numerous capacities before
1-10     becoming senior vice president of TU Electric in 1991; and
1-11           WHEREAS, A respected professional in the electric industry,
1-12     Mr. Griffin served in leadership positions on several boards,
1-13     including the Edison Electric Institute Customer Service &
1-14     Marketing Executive Advisory Committee and the Texas Atomic Energy
1-15     Research Foundation Board of Directors, and he was selected as
1-16     Outstanding Young Engineer of the Year in 1967 by the Dallas
1-17     chapter of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers; and
1-18           WHEREAS, Mr. Griffin loved Dallas and was very active in
1-19     community affairs; he was a member of the Salesmanship Club of
1-20     Dallas, the Dallas Center for Housing Resources, the North Dallas
1-21     Chamber of Commerce, the Dallas Assembly, the Dallas Urban League,
1-22     the Private Industry Council, the City of Dallas Budget Panel, the
1-23     Dallas Golden Glove Tournament, and the Greater Dallas Community
1-24     Relations Commission; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, In addition to his many other accomplishments,
 2-2     Mr. Griffin gave generously of his time to numerous civic and
 2-3     charitable organizations, including the State Fair Scholarship
 2-4     Committee, the State Fair President's Task Force, the Dallas
 2-5     chapter of the American Red Cross, Junior Achievement of Dallas,
 2-6     the Dallas Jaycees, the Dallas chapter of the March of Dimes, the
 2-7     All Sports Association of Dallas, Big Brothers of Dallas, the
 2-8     Dallas Zoological Society, and United Way of Dallas; in 1970 he was
 2-9     chosen as the Dallas Jaycees Outstanding Young Man of Dallas; and
2-10           WHEREAS, Mr. Griffin was a devoted and loving husband to his
2-11     wife, Susan, and was a faithful member of St. Bernard's Catholic
2-12     Church of Dallas; and
2-13           WHEREAS, Terry Griffin was a man of integrity, honor, and
2-14     generosity, and his life and career stand as an eloquent testimony
2-15     to the ability and intelligence of this esteemed gentleman; though
2-16     he will be deeply missed by all who knew him, his spirit will
2-17     surely live on in the hearts and minds of the many people whose
2-18     lives he touched; now, therefore, be it
2-19           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-20     Legislative hereby pay special tribute to the life of Terry Royce
2-21     Griffin and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:
2-22     to his wife, Susan Griffin; to his mother-in-law, Beverly Ann Long;
2-23     to his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Charlie and Jeannie
2-24     Bookout, Jim and Debbie Long, and Jonell Griffin; and to the many
2-25     other relatives and friends of this beloved man; and, be it further
2-26           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-27     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
 3-1     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
 3-2     Terry Royce Griffin.
