R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Wayne Hagood has been a barber in Sweetwater for the
1-2 past 40 years, and during that time he has provided impeccable
1-3 service and warm smiles for all of his patrons; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Born and raised in Nolan County, this patriotic
1-5 Texan served his country with honor as a member of the U.S. Army in
1-6 Germany from 1952-1954, and after returning to the United States he
1-7 enrolled in barber school in Austin; and
1-8 WHEREAS, Mr. Hagood began his career as a barber in Big
1-9 Spring and Kermit, before moving back to his hometown of Sweetwater
1-10 in 1959 to work at Turner's Barber Shop; two years later, he
1-11 purchased the shop and embarked on his career as a small business
1-12 owner; and
1-13 WHEREAS, Highly regarded for his benevolent deeds as well as
1-14 his clean cuts, Mr. Hagood cut hair on his day off at the Holiday
1-15 Retirement Center for 25 years, and has been known to make house
1-16 calls to customers who are unable to come to his shop; and
1-17 WHEREAS, This fine gentleman has been serving the citizens of
1-18 Sweetwater from his shop on the corner of Arkansas and Lamar
1-19 streets for nearly 40 years, and even the tornado of 1986 didn't
1-20 slow him down for long as he quickly rebuilt and started over after
1-21 the damage done to the original building made it beyond repair; and
1-22 WHEREAS, The quality of Mr. Hagood's service is apparent by
1-23 the lines of patrons that accumulate in his shop, and his status as
1-24 one of only four shops remaining from the 40 that were in business
2-1 in 1961 is true testament to the quality of service provided at
2-2 Mr. Hagood's shop; and
2-3 WHEREAS, An accomplished barber and a beloved member of the
2-4 community, Wayne Hagood has been providing sharp haircuts and warm
2-5 conversations for 40 years, and it is indeed appropriate that he be
2-6 commended at this time; now, therefore, be it
2-7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-8 Legislature hereby honor Wayne Hagood for his 40 years of skillful
2-9 haircutting and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
2-10 success and happiness; and, be it further
2-11 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-12 prepared for Mr. Hagood as an expression of high regard by the
2-13 Texas House of Representatives.
