R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of Donna M. McVeigh on February 11,
 1-2     1999, at the age of 61, has brought a great loss to the family and
 1-3     many friends of this beloved woman; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Born on April 29, 1937, in Syracuse, New York, she
 1-5     was married to Ray McVeigh and the couple enjoyed a close and
 1-6     rewarding relationship; they were blessed with two daughters, and
 1-7     in recent years their family life was further enhanced with the
 1-8     welcome addition of seven grandchildren; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Mrs. McVeigh owned Friendly Travel and formed a
1-10     business partnership with Armstrong Elementary School,
1-11     enthusiastically contributing her time and energy as a reader to
1-12     the delight of the young students; and
1-13           WHEREAS, The first female Rotarian in Montgomery County, she
1-14     was a person others looked to for leadership and motivation, and
1-15     she was instrumental in building the annual Cattle Baron's Ball
1-16     into one of the most successful Houston-area fund-raisers
1-17     benefiting the American Cancer Society; and
1-18           WHEREAS, Mrs. McVeigh was an invaluable member of the Conroe
1-19     area business and civic community and actively supported many
1-20     worthy organizations; she served as chairman of the Montgomery
1-21     County Chamber of Commerce, Society of Performing Arts, Conroe
1-22     Tourist Council, and Crighton Theatre Foundation and president of
1-23     the Montgomery County American Cancer Society; and
1-24           WHEREAS, Her commitment to volunteerism was exemplified by
 2-1     her distinguished service as a member of the North Harris
 2-2     Montgomery College District board, the Montgomery County Civic
 2-3     Center and multi-purpose building committee, and the YMCA panel;
 2-4     and
 2-5           WHEREAS, Throughout her life Mrs. McVeigh devoted her time
 2-6     and energy to her family, friends, and community; those who were
 2-7     privileged to enjoy her friendship will surely  miss her presence,
 2-8     and they will certainly treasure the memories of her warmth,
 2-9     devotion, and integrity for many years to come; now, therefore, be
2-10     it
2-11           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-12     Legislature hereby honor the memory of Donna M. McVeigh and extend
2-13     sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her husband, Ray
2-14     McVeigh; to her daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Chuck
2-15     Bergfeld and Donna and Bob Whitley; to her grandchildren, Lauren
2-16     and Chase Bergfeld and Kristin, Tracey, Anne, Michelle, and Clint
2-17     Whitley; to her sisters-in-law, Cathy Brooks and Amy McVeigh; to
2-18     her brother-in-law and his wife, Francis P. and Ann Marie McVeigh;
2-19     and to the many other friends and relatives of this esteemed woman;
2-20     and, be it further
2-21           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-22     prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas
2-23     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-24     Donna M. McVeigh.
