R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to 1-2 welcome faculty, students, and parents from St. Francis Episcopal 1-3 Day School in Houston to the State Capitol on March 1, 1999; and 1-4 WHEREAS, St. Francis Episcopal Day School offers an 1-5 academically and spiritually stimulating learning environment in 1-6 which students are challenged to become imaginative, critical 1-7 thinkers; and 1-8 WHEREAS, The school's curriculum empowers both teachers and 1-9 students to use technology as a problem solving, communication, and 1-10 research tool; in recognition of their technological proficiency, 1-11 the faculty earned the honor of presenting a workshop at the 1-12 prestigious Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development 1-13 national conference on the topic of creating a technology-infused 1-14 classroom; and 1-15 WHEREAS, This distinguished institution also affords its 1-16 students the opportunity to participate in extensive art, music, 1-17 and drama programs in addition to featuring competitive athletics; 1-18 in all of these valued programs students learn important lessons, 1-19 such as goal setting, decision making, respect for others, 1-20 discipline, perseverance, and commitment; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Other student endeavors include the Classroom of the 1-22 Earth program, which combines curriculum study with outdoor 1-23 awareness and offers an opportunity to apply critical thinking and 1-24 problem solving strategies; St. Francis is also committed to 2-1 outreach and service, an initiative aimed at teaching that each 2-2 child has something unique and special to offer the world, while 2-3 fostering an understanding of responsibilities and commitment; and 2-4 WHEREAS, St. Francis Episcopal Day School continues to be a 2-5 significant academic asset; its students and faculty have shown 2-6 true dedication to the cause of education and to their community, 2-7 and as representatives of this outstanding institution gather at 2-8 the State Capitol, it is indeed fitting to recognize them; now, 2-9 therefore, be it 2-10 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-11 Legislature hereby honor the visiting delegation from St. Francis 2-12 Episcopal Day School and extend to them sincere best wishes for 2-13 continued success and happiness; and, be it further 2-14 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-15 prepared for St. Francis Episcopal Day School as an expression of 2-16 high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
