                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes special
 1-2     pride in honoring Brandon Hussey for being named outstanding Texas
 1-3     high school student volunteer in The 1999 Prudential Spirit of
 1-4     Community Awards; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Mr. Hussey has the proud distinction of being one of
 1-6     two students chosen from the State of Texas, and for his efforts he
 1-7     will receive a $1,000 award and an engraved silver medallion to be
 1-8     presented at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, A junior at Waco High School, Mr. Hussey is a
1-10     founding member and president of Students Who Are Caring About
1-11     Drugs And Safety (SWACADAS); this group delivers presentations to
1-12     students about drugs, guns, and peer pressure in order to address
1-13     drug, violence, and safety issues, and it maintains a 24-hour help
1-14     hotline for teens; and
1-15           WHEREAS, The Prudential Spirit of Community Award was created
1-16     to honor students in middle and high school grades who have
1-17     demonstrated meritorious, self-initiated community service and, by
1-18     recognizing these students, to encourage other young people to
1-19     become more involved in community service; this award is sponsored
1-20     by the Prudential Insurance Company of America in partnership with
1-21     the National Association of Secondary School Principals; and
1-22           WHEREAS, From more than 20,000 nominees nationwide, one
1-23     middle and one high school student are chosen to represent each of
1-24     the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico as state
 2-1     honorees, and from that group 10 national honorees are selected;
 2-2     and
 2-3           WHEREAS, The success of the Lone Star State, the strength of
 2-4     our communities, and the overall vitality of American society
 2-5     depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of young people like
 2-6     Mr. Hussey who use their considerable talents and resources to
 2-7     serve others; now, therefore, be it
 2-8           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-9     Legislature hereby congratulate Brandon Hussey on his receipt of
2-10     The 1999 Prudential Spirit of Community Award for Texas and extend
2-11     to him best wishes in all of his future endeavors; and, be it
2-12     further
2-13           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-14     prepared for Mr. Hussey as a token of high regard from the Texas
2-15     House of Representatives.
