                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, William Howard Taft High School in San Antonio has
 1-2     been named a National Exemplary Blue Ribbon School by the U.S.
 1-3     Department of Education for demonstrating a strong commitment to
 1-4     educational excellence for all of its students; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Recipients of the award were selected based on
 1-6     criteria including student performance and graduation rates,
 1-7     teaching staff, curriculum, and the development of community and
 1-8     family partnerships; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Taft High School is a model of excellence and
1-10     provides a diverse education for its students through such programs
1-11     as the communications magnet school, which specializes in
1-12     international languages, multimedia computer graphics, and video
1-13     editing; and
1-14           WHEREAS, In another innovative effort, Taft High School
1-15     incorporated a team-teaching concept to respond to the needs of
1-16     freshmen; sets of ninth-grade students are assigned to the same
1-17     teachers for core classes to provide a supportive base for students
1-18     as they move into high school; and
1-19           WHEREAS, By receiving the Blue Ribbon School Award, Taft High
1-20     School joins an elite group of 166 middle and high schools
1-21     nationwide that have been selected, and the faculty, students,
1-22     parents, and community have all contributed to the success of this
1-23     school; and
1-24           WHEREAS, The students and faculty at William Howard Taft High
 2-1     School have performed admirably in their quest for academic
 2-2     excellence, and their notable achievements as a National Exemplary
 2-3     Blue Ribbon School are indeed worthy of special commendation; now,
 2-4     therefore, be it
 2-5           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-6     Legislature hereby congratulate the students and faculty of William
 2-7     Howard Taft High School for their school's designation as a
 2-8     National Exemplary Blue Ribbon School and extend sincere best
 2-9     wishes to all who have contributed to the success of this
2-10     remarkable campus; and, be it further
2-11           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-12     prepared for William Howard Taft High School as an expression of
2-13     high regard by the House of Representatives.
