R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Lake Highlands High School seniors Claire Grant and 1-2 Trey Wakefield have been selected as Youth of the Month for 1-3 February 1999 by the Exchange Club of Lake Highlands, and these 1-4 exemplary students are truly deserving of special recognition for 1-5 their many accomplishments; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Each month, the Exchange Club of Lake Highlands 1-7 recognizes two seniors from Lake Highlands High School for 1-8 superlative academic achievement and noteworthy extracurricular 1-9 involvement; these deserving individuals receive U.S. Savings Bonds 1-10 and are made eligible for college scholarships to supplement the 1-11 costs of continuing their education; and 1-12 WHEREAS, A two-year member of the Lake Highlands High School 1-13 newspaper staff, Ms. Grant currently serves as editor-in-chief of 1-14 the school's student publication; she is a distinguished member of 1-15 the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta and rounds out her 1-16 extracurricular activities as a member of the Highlandettes; and 1-17 WHEREAS, This dedicated and talented young woman is an active 1-18 community servant whose contributions to her fellow citizens 1-19 include collecting canned goods for North Dallas Shared Ministries, 1-20 caroling at local nursing homes during the holiday season, and 1-21 participating in the Valentines for Vets program; a youth leader in 1-22 her church, she also enjoys studying piano and dance; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Mr. Wakefield has been a member of the National 1-24 Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta since 1997 and served as president 2-1 of the National Junior Honor Society in 1995; he is an active 2-2 student council member and has held the posts of historian, class 2-3 representative, and committee chairman; and 2-4 WHEREAS, An avid and notable athlete, this remarkable teen is 2-5 a co-captain of the varsity baseball team as well as a member of 2-6 the school's varsity basketball team, and he has won several awards 2-7 for his athletic prowess; his service to the community includes 2-8 tutoring students at an area elementary school, participating in 2-9 various student council service projects, and delivering Christmas 2-10 meals for the Elks Lodge; and 2-11 WHEREAS, The Youth of the Month Award helps to affirm the 2-12 positive and productive civic, academic, and extracurricular 2-13 participation of the young people of Lake Highlands High School, 2-14 and it is indeed a privilege to recognize the merits of this award 2-15 and to pay tribute to the deserving students who are selected to 2-16 receive it; now, therefore, be it 2-17 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-18 Legislature hereby congratulate Claire Grant and Trey Wakefield on 2-19 being named Youth of the Month for February 1999 by the Exchange 2-20 Club of Lake Highlands and extend to them best wishes for continued 2-21 success and happiness in all their endeavors; and, be it further 2-22 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-23 prepared for Ms. Grant and Mr. Wakefield as an expression of high 2-24 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
