                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, On February 7, 1999, the Victoria High School
 1-2     cheerleaders were named national champions when they took first
 1-3     place at the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) National High
 1-4     School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Florida, and this
 1-5     exemplary achievement has been the highlight of an already
 1-6     outstanding season; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, During the 1998-1999 school year, the Victoria High
 1-8     School cheerleaders have won numerous local and state titles en
 1-9     route to the national win, including UCA Camp Champions in San
1-10     Marcos, first place at the Lone Star Cheer Company Championship,
1-11     and first place at the UCA State Cheerleading Championship, earning
1-12     great honor for themselves and for Victoria High School; and
1-13           WHEREAS, In addition to their almost constant preparation and
1-14     training for competition, these committed young women cheer and
1-15     support Victoria High School sports teams throughout the year while
1-16     contributing to the high scholastic standards for which the
1-17     Victoria school system is renowned; and
1-18           WHEREAS, In this busy and successful season, they have also
1-19     been active participants in a number of community service events,
1-20     ranging from the Gulf Bend Mental Health-Mental Retardation
1-21     Center's Friendship Fest to Red Ribbon Week pep rallies, and a
1-22     variety of TAAS Week assemblies encouraging students to "Pass the
1-23     TAAS" exam; and
1-24           WHEREAS,  Under the guidance of Denise Neel, who recently
 2-1     marked her 10th year as sponsor and coach of the team, the Victoria
 2-2     High School cheerleaders have proven themselves time and again as
 2-3     champions in competition, education, and civic spirit, and their
 2-4     impressive accomplishments are indeed worthy of special legislative
 2-5     recognition; now, therefore, be it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-7     Legislature hereby congratulate the Victoria High School
 2-8     cheerleaders on their selection as UCA National High School
 2-9     Cheerleading Champions,  and extend to these fine young women and
2-10     Denise Neel warmest best wishes for continued success and
2-11     happiness; and, be it further
2-12           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-13     prepared for the members of the team and Mrs. Neel as an expression
2-14     of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
