                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Thelma Gay Farris of De Kalb celebrated her 90th
 1-2     birthday on February 27, 1999, and this memorable milestone is
 1-3     indeed deserving of special recognition; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Mrs. Farris was born in 1909 in Springhill and was
 1-5     educated at Big Spring High School and Draughn's Business College
 1-6     in Abilene; in 1931, she wed Guy Otto Farris, with whom she enjoyed
 1-7     48 years of marriage and lovingly raised four children, Gwendolyn
 1-8     Gay, Jan, Guy Wright, and Michael Stephen; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Early in their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Farris settled
1-10     in the Springhill community until 1940 when they bought a farm on
1-11     Green Hill; they lived on the farm for the remainder of their
1-12     married days and it wasn't until 1985, six years after Otto's
1-13     passing, that Mrs. Farris moved into town; and
1-14           WHEREAS, She has been an active member of the First United
1-15     Methodist Church of De Kalb since the late 1940s and she is also a
1-16     leader with the United Methodist Women, the Mary Martha Sunday
1-17     School Class, and many local missions; and
1-18           WHEREAS, A vibrant woman, Mrs. Farris continues at the age of
1-19     90 to enjoy playing bridge, skip-bo, and dominoes, reading, working
1-20     in her yard, and dancing; and
1-21           WHEREAS, This outstanding Texan has been an inspiration to
1-22     her many friends and numerous family members, including her 10
1-23     grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and it is truly a
1-24     pleasure to join them in honoring her at this time; now, therefore,
 2-1     be it
 2-2           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-3     Legislature hereby congratulate Thelma Gay Farris on the occasion
 2-4     of her 90th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for
 2-5     continued happiness and good health; and, be it further
 2-6           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-7     prepared for Mrs. Farris as an expression of high regard by the
 2-8     Texas House of Representatives.
