R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Kilgore High School sophomore Katy Hull has been
 1-2     selected as a Barbara Jordan Media Award winner, and this young
 1-3     Texan is indeed worthy of special legislative recognition; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Ms. Hull won Honorable Mention distinction in the
 1-5     student category for Special Contribution with her essay, "That
 1-6     Extra Chromosome"; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, The article was published in the Advocate Express
 1-8     and Consumer Voice newsletters and briefly describes the history
 1-9     and genetic links of Down syndrome, the impact it has made in
1-10     Katy's life, and some of her plans for her future; and
1-11           WHEREAS, This moving and exceptional piece caught the
1-12     attention of the judges from among many other highly qualified
1-13     entries because of the personal experiences Katy shared, in
1-14     combination with many facts about the extra chromosome; and
1-15           WHEREAS, In her story, Ms. Hull also detailed her dreams of a
1-16     job as a librarian and life as a writer, as well as the important
1-17     role friends and family play in every person's life, no matter the
1-18     number of chromosomes they possess; and
1-19           WHEREAS, Katy is the daughter of Steve and Dorothy Hull, and
1-20     an older sister to Sara, Molly, and Travis; she and members of her
1-21     family are visiting Austin and the State Capitol on March 3, 1999,
1-22     and it is appropriate to take this occasion to recognize her for
1-23     her talent, her straightforward and very personable style, and her
1-24     determination; now, therefore, be it
 2-1           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-2     Legislature hereby welcome Katy Hull to the State Capitol,
 2-3     congratulate her on receiving the Barbara Jordan Media Award, and
 2-4     extend to her warmest best wishes for great happiness and success
 2-5     in the years to come; and, be it further
 2-6           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-7     prepared for Ms. Hull as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 2-8     House of Representatives.
