R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The untimely passing of MaryLou Trevino-Lopez on
 1-2     March 10, 1998, at the age of 49, has brought great sorrow and loss
 1-3     to the family and many friends of this remarkable woman; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Mrs. Trevino-Lopez was born on December 1, 1948, in
 1-5     Pesqueria, Nuevo Leon, Mexico; she immigrated to the United States
 1-6     in 1958 with her family and lived the American dream; she grew up
 1-7     in Houston's EastEnd community and graduated from Stephen F.
 1-8     Austin High School in 1968; Mrs. Trevino-Lopez attended Houston
 1-9     Community College and graduated from the University of Houston,
1-10     where she obtained her bachelor's and  master's degrees in
1-11     bilingual education; and
1-12           WHEREAS, Mrs. Trevino-Lopez married the love of her life,
1-13     Fernando Lopez, on January 9, 1982, and they were blessed with four
1-14     beautiful children, Javier Luis, Adrian Alejandro, Maria Fernanda,
1-15     and Francisco Rogelio; together they created a home filled with
1-16     much love and many joyful memories; and
1-17           WHEREAS, MaryLou Trevino-Lopez was a dedicated employee of
1-18     the Ripley House, the Downtown YMCA, the Honorable Barbara Jordan,
1-19     and most notably, the Houston Independent School District (HISD);
1-20     as an educator for the past 20 years, she touched the lives and
1-21     hearts of many students, especially at Anson Jones, DeZavala, and
1-22     Love elementary schools; she served as a vanguard coordinator and
1-23     most recently as a curriculum specialist, and one of her greatest
1-24     honors was being recognized in 1995 as Teacher of the Year for
 2-1     HISD; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, Mrs. Trevino-Lopez was blessed with unshakeable
 2-3     strength to courageously battle breast cancer; she was a devout
 2-4     member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and her tremendous
 2-5     faith in God was an inspiration to all; and
 2-6           WHEREAS, Mrs. Trevino-Lopez leaves a legacy of genuine
 2-7     compassion, kindness, and unselfish love for others that will
 2-8     remain cherished by those fortunate enough to have shared her life;
 2-9     she will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it
2-10           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 76th Texas Legislature
2-11     hereby pay tribute to the life of MaryLou Trevino-Lopez and extend
2-12     sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her husband,
2-13     Fernando Lopez; to her children, Javier Luis, Adrian Alejandro,
2-14     Maria Fernanda, and Francisco Rogelio; to her mother, Luisa
2-15     Trevino; to her mother-in-law, Maria Serna Lopez; to her brothers
2-16     and their spouses, Calixto and Rosemary, Victor, Jr., and Silvia,
2-17     and John and Elma; to her sisters and their spouses, Ramona and
2-18     Mike, Maria and Leonard, Magdalena and Roy, Nelly and Tom, and
2-19     Gloria; to her sister-in-law and her spouse, Leticia and Miguel;
2-20     and to all the other relatives and countless friends of this
2-21     wonderful woman; and, be it further
2-22           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-23     prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas
2-24     Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of MaryLou
2-25     Trevino-Lopez.
