                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, White Oak High School senior Christopher Anderson
 1-2     has earned a Barbara Jordan Award medallion from the Texas
 1-3     Governor's Committee on People with Disabilities, and this young
 1-4     Texan indeed merits special legislative recognition; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Because of ocular albinism, Mr. Anderson has been
 1-6     legally blind since birth, yet he is a four-year honor roll member
 1-7     enrolled in advanced classes, is a GLOBE scholar active in the
 1-8     Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and is on the staff of the school
 1-9     newspaper and yearbook; and
1-10           WHEREAS, He belongs to the East Mountain Baptist Church,
1-11     where he works with the youth group and Vacation Bible School
1-12     students, and has participated in the city's annual Roughneck Days
1-13     celebration and fund-raisers for the Volunteer Fire Department; and
1-14           WHEREAS, A respected high school sports correspondent for the
1-15     Longview News-Journal, Mr. Anderson covers every sport in which his
1-16     school competes, from football and basketball to powerlifting; and
1-17           WHEREAS, One major goal of the Barbara Jordan Awards program
1-18     is to encourage young writers with disabilities to seek employment
1-19     in public media, and Mr. Anderson's achievements serve as an
1-20     outstanding example to all; and
1-21           WHEREAS, This talented writer plans to work toward a master's
1-22     degree and a career in the field of journalism; with his ability,
1-23     enthusiasm, and wholehearted commitment, he will no doubt succeed,
1-24     and it is a pleasure to honor him at this time; now, therefore, be
 2-1     it
 2-2           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-3     Legislature hereby congratulate Christopher Anderson on winning a
 2-4     Barbara Jordan Award and extend to him warm best wishes for great
 2-5     success and happiness in the years to come; and, be it further
 2-6           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-7     prepared for Mr. Anderson as an expression of high regard by the
 2-8     Texas House of Representatives.
