R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, White Oak High School senior Cody Terry was named 1-2 the male state winner in the 1998 Wendy's High School Heisman 1-3 Program, earning a trophy modeled after the official Heisman award 1-4 and medals for being both a state winner and a national finalist; 1-5 and 1-6 WHEREAS, Sponsored by Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburger 1-7 Restaurants, the Wendy's High School Heisman Program was 1-8 established in 1994 to honor the top high school seniors in the 1-9 nation based on their academic achievements, community service, 1-10 athletic accomplishments, and a written essay; to be eligible for 1-11 the competition, students must have a minimum B grade average and 1-12 participate in at least one of the 31 sports officially sanctioned 1-13 by the National Federation of State High Schools; and 1-14 WHEREAS, During his years at White Oak High School, Mr. Terry 1-15 has excelled in many academic, athletic, and community activities; 1-16 an awarding-winning letterman in football, basketball, and track, 1-17 he is also a vital and valued member of numerous scholastic and 1-18 community organizations; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Mr. Terry's many accolades include his membership as 1-20 a senior officer of the Omicron Iota Lambda chapter of the National 1-21 Honor Society for three years and recognition as an honor roll 1-22 student for four years, a Globe Scholar, an All American Scholar, 1-23 and an Academic All American, and he was also invited to 1-24 participate in the Congressional Youth Leadership Conference in 2-1 Washington, D.C.; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Elected Mr. White Oak High School, he has served as 2-3 class president for four years, as a four-year officer and senior 2-4 president of SADD, and as a four-year member and senior sports 2-5 editor of the journalism newspaper staff; he is also active with 2-6 the Mentorship Program and the Coats for Kids program, has been a 2-7 fire department benefit volunteer, and is the American Heart 2-8 Association's "Hoops for Heart" high point contributor; and 2-9 WHEREAS, Mr. Terry has distinguished himself as a dedicated 2-10 and gifted student athlete and community leader, and it is truly 2-11 fitting that he be honored for his impressive accomplishments; now, 2-12 therefore, be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-14 Legislature hereby congratulate Cody Terry on being named the male 2-15 state winner in the 1998 Wendy's High School Heisman Program and 2-16 extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and 2-17 happiness; and, be it further 2-18 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-19 prepared for Mr. Terry as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-20 House of Representatives.
