                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The bravery and commitment to duty demonstrated by
 1-2     Dallas police officer David S. Llewellyn is indeed worthy of
 1-3     special recognition; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, After completing a tour of duty on July 28, 1993,
 1-5     this heroic gentleman was driving home when he noticed two security
 1-6     guards pursuing an armed man; he proceeded to join in the chase and
 1-7     eventually caught up with the fleeing man, who then fired several
 1-8     gunshots, striking Officer Llewellyn in the chest, face, and neck;
 1-9     and
1-10           WHEREAS, Despite being seriously wounded, he remained focused
1-11     on his situation, struggling to his feet and applying pressure to
1-12     his neck wound to prevent blood loss, actions that doctors believe
1-13     saved his life; Officer Llewellyn was then rushed to the hospital
1-14     and underwent emergency surgery to repair his life-threatening
1-15     injuries; and
1-16           WHEREAS, After being released from the hospital, he began an
1-17     arduous rehabilitation process, overcoming fatigue and numbness on
1-18     the left side of his body and learning to speak again in spite of
1-19     severe damage to his tongue; his fierce determination to recover
1-20     completely and rejoin the police force enabled him to return to the
1-21     job he loved far in advance of the schedule predicted by his
1-22     physicians; and
1-23           WHEREAS, Although he still experiences a degree of numbness
1-24     and has lost the sense of taste on one side of his tongue, Officer
 2-1     Llewellyn continues to work out of the Southwest Operations
 2-2     Division on the evening watch; his heroic service was justifiably
 2-3     recognized when he was chosen to receive the Theodore Roosevelt
 2-4     Association Police Award; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, David S. Llewellyn has distinguished himself as a
 2-6     police officer of amazing courage whose ability to overcome
 2-7     critical injuries and return to serving as a peacekeeper truly make
 2-8     him one of the Lone Star State's most remarkable citizens; now,
 2-9     therefore, be it
2-10           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-11     Legislature hereby honor police officer David S. Llewellyn for his
2-12     heroism and dedication to duty and extend to him sincere best
2-13     wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
2-14           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-15     prepared for Officer Llewellyn as an expression of high regard by
2-16     the Texas House of Representatives.
