R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Thomas D. Currey, life and health insurance agent 1-2 and president of the Texas Association of Life Underwriters (TALU), 1-3 is truly an outstanding Texan and deserving of special recognition; 1-4 and 1-5 WHEREAS, A native of Rockdale, Mr. Currey graduated from 1-6 Rockdale High School and in 1972 earned a degree from Baylor 1-7 University, where he played in the stage and jazz bands; he did 1-8 graduate work in trombone performance at East Texas State 1-9 University; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Mr. Currey was teaching music in Grand Prairie 1-11 public schools as well as playing in local bands when he decided to 1-12 enter the field of insurance; he completed the rigorous 1-13 qualifications necessary to attain the Chartered Life Underwriter 1-14 and the Chartered Financial Consultant designations from the 1-15 American College of Life Underwriters, and furthered his education 1-16 by achieving the Life Underwriter Training Council Fellowship 1-17 designation; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Starting as an agent with Mutual of New York, he 1-19 established TDC Financial Services in Grand Prairie in 1984 and 1-20 provides financial planning and services for individuals and small 1-21 businesses; on March 1, 1999, Mr. Currey celebrated his 19th year 1-22 as a member of the financial services industry; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Elected president of TALU in June 1998, he has a 1-24 distinguished history with the state organization that began in 2-1 1992 when he was elected regional vice president; under his 2-2 visionary leadership TALU has successfully initiated numerous 2-3 promotions and community service programs, as well as strengthening 2-4 relations between the state and local affiliates; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Politically active in TALU's key contact program, 2-6 Mr. Currey earned the honors of Century Club Member and TALUPAC 2-7 Tall Texan; he is also a member of the Great Southwest Association 2-8 of Life Underwriters, one of the 36 local affiliates that make up 2-9 TALU, and received that organization's Career Service Award in 1994 2-10 and the Member of the Year Award in 1998; and 2-11 WHEREAS, A dedicated community leader, he has been active 2-12 with the Grand Prairie Independent School District Special 2-13 Education Committee, the Grand Prairie Chamber of Commerce 2-14 Highways, Transportation, and Aviation Committee, and the Grand 2-15 Prairie Metro Rotary Club, as well as serving as music director for 2-16 the First United Methodist Church; and 2-17 WHEREAS, Mr. Currey has continued to draw strength and 2-18 inspiration from his devoted wife of 26 years, Charlotte, and his 2-19 four sons, Matthew, Adam, Isaac, and Joel; and 2-20 WHEREAS, Mr. Currey has distinguished himself as a man of 2-21 ability and integrity, and it is truly fitting that he be 2-22 recognized for his many achievements at this time; now, therefore, 2-23 be it 2-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-25 Legislature hereby honor Thomas D. Currey, president of the Texas 2-26 Association of Life Underwriters and Grand Prairie business and 2-27 community leader, and extend to him sincere best wishes for 3-1 continued success and happiness; and, be it further 3-2 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-3 prepared for Mr. Currey as an expression of high regard by the 3-4 Texas House of Representatives.
