No. 413 76R8460 WMS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Tenaha High School Tigers football team has 1-2 achieved the pinnacle of success by winning the 1998 UIL Class 1A 1-3 state championship, marking the first state title by a team from 1-4 the Tenaha ISD; and 1-5 WHEREAS, On December 20, 1998, the Tigers won the Class 1A 1-6 championship by besting Wheeler High School in the thrilling title 1-7 game by a score of 20-13; Tenaha completed the 1998 campaign with a 1-8 perfect 16-0 record and was the only 11-man high school squad in 1-9 the state to complete the season with an unblemished record; and 1-10 WHEREAS, The season's outstanding accomplishments were a 1-11 result of total dedication to the team concept from players Frank 1-12 Johnson, Chavis McCollister, Ronnie Ivy, Nick Stafford, DaCallier 1-13 McClure, Len Giles, Kennis Henderson, Joe Cooks, Jeremy Vann, Terry 1-14 Steadman, Brandon Cooks, Chris Shafer, Reggie Osby, Brent Barton, 1-15 Kornelius "Neal" Hill, Marty Glenn, Brian Weeks, Deon Horton, 1-16 Arthur Johnson, Ron Landon, Justin Kirkwood, Andrew "Drew" King, 1-17 Garrett "J. Bo" Spurlock, Cole Fleming, Ben Dial, Justin Tatom, 1-18 George Porter, Eugene "Bailey" Jones, Kenney Milam, Jonathan 1-19 Eubank, William Weeks, Steven Eaves, and Lamont Calloway; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Although each team member made significant 1-21 contributions to the Tigers' overall success, several players also 1-22 earned individual distinction, including Chavis McCollister, who 1-23 was named Dave Campbell/Fox Sports Class A Player of the Year and 1-24 AP and Texas Sportswriters Class A Offensive Player of the Year, 2-1 and Deon Horton, who was tabbed as Texas Sportswriters Defensive 2-2 Player of the Year; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Head coach Raymond Jackson provided his young 2-4 charges with superb leadership, enabling them to attain their 2-5 championship dream, and he was ably supported in his endeavors by 2-6 assistant coaches Ray Jackson, Jr., Clark Partin, Mike Ramsey, 2-7 Tommy Sturrock, and Larry Williams; and 2-8 WHEREAS, Exceptional support was also supplied by 2-9 cheerleaders Robin Blakeway, Brooke Christian, Jamie Conway, Tammy 2-10 Crawford, Serita Fountain, Natasha Garrett, Christy Holmes, Kim 2-11 Ogden, and Adrean Roberson; twirlers Kimberley Webb, Cassie Barton, 2-12 and Amber Bownds; Tiger mascot Tara Sims; and the Tenaha High 2-13 School Band under the direction of Dan English; and 2-14 WHEREAS, The members of the Tigers football team, along with 2-15 their coaches and staff, are a source of tremendous pride to the 2-16 students and faculty at Tenaha High School and their many 2-17 supporters in the community, and it is appropriate that they be 2-18 honored for their achievements at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-19 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-20 Legislature hereby congratulate the Tenaha High School Tigers 2-21 football team on winning the 1998 UIL Class 1A championship and 2-22 extend to the team best wishes for continued success; and, be it 2-23 further 2-24 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-25 prepared for prominent display at Tenaha High School as an 2-26 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
