R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Holly Mills has represented the Lone Star State with
 1-2     distinction during her yearlong reign as Miss Texas U.S.A., and she
 1-3     is indeed deserving of special legislative recognition at this
 1-4     time; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, A seventh-generation Texan born and raised in San
 1-6     Antonio, Ms. Mills was crowned Miss Texas U.S.A. from a group of
 1-7     more than 125 noted young women who were vying for the title; she
 1-8     previously claimed the title of Miss San Antonio U.S.A., which
 1-9     advanced her to the state pageant, and she was named third
1-10     runner-up at the Miss U.S.A.  pageant; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Ms. Mills earned a bachelor of business
1-12     administration degree from Southwest Texas State University, where
1-13     she was chosen to receive the SWT Sales and Marketing Award and
1-14     participated on the Small Business Institute consulting team; named
1-15     to the Dean's List, she was also elected to the Homecoming Court,
1-16     served as an alumni member and officer of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority,
1-17     and was selected as the Kappa Alpha Fraternity Rose; and
1-18           WHEREAS, Embracing the many responsibilities relating to
1-19     being a spokesperson for her beloved home state, Ms. Mills has
1-20     traveled more than 100,000 miles in 14 months, making history for
1-21     the most miles logged during a Miss Texas U.S.A. term; during her
1-22     extensive travels, she remained focused on her desire to serve the
1-23     people of Texas and the pageant's sponsors, while positively
1-24     affecting the life of each individual she met during her reign; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, Ms. Mills also continued to diligently promote and
 2-2     offer her personal support to a variety of charities, including
 2-3     Ronald McDonald House, Any Baby Can, American Heart Association,
 2-4     American Cancer Society, Special Olympics, and the D.A.R.E.
 2-5     Program, which honored her as its 1998 D.A.R.E. Volunteer of the
 2-6     Year; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, An accomplished motivational speaker, this inspiring
 2-8     young woman was invited by former President George Bush to be one
 2-9     of the guest presenters at the America's Promise Summit in Houston;
2-10     during her tenure as Miss Texas U.S.A., she participated in
2-11     numerous speaking engagements at schools and universities
2-12     throughout Texas and addressed corporate and convention audiences
2-13     as well; and
2-14           WHEREAS, Since her designation as Miss Texas 1998, Ms. Mills
2-15     has appeared in several television commercials and programs,
2-16     including the popular CBS series, Nash Bridges, and has hosted or
2-17     cohosted more than two dozen pageants, award shows, and television
2-18     programs such as Gameworks Live, which she cohosted with MTV's
2-19     Melissa Cross; and
2-20           WHEREAS, Ms. Mills has now embarked on a career with
2-21     Blythe-Nelson, a management services and systems engineering firm,
2-22     and she has a sales and marketing position with that respected
2-23     Austin company; and
2-24           WHEREAS, With her significant leadership skills, business
2-25     background, and warm personality, Ms. Mills is truly a Texas asset,
2-26     and she has ably represented the citizens of Texas with dedication
2-27     and professionalism; now, therefore, be it
 3-1           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 3-2     Legislature hereby commend Holly Mills on her reign as Miss Texas
 3-3     U.S.A. 1998 and extend to her sincere best wishes for success and
 3-4     happiness in the years to come; and, be it further
 3-5           RESOLVED, That an offical copy of this resolution be prepared
 3-6     for Ms. Mills as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of
 3-7     Representatives.
