R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The recent passing of Jerome Vernon Valentine of
1-2 Dallas on February 25, 1999, at the age of 52, has brought great
1-3 sadness to the family and many friends of this esteemed gentleman;
1-4 and
1-5 WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. Valentine graduated from Lincoln
1-6 High School and went on to serve his country with distinction as a
1-7 soldier in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War; and
1-8 WHEREAS, Mr. Valentine was the founder and owner of Val's
1-9 Beer and Wine Liquor Store for 20 years and was a respected member
1-10 of his community; and
1-11 WHEREAS, This distinguished man enjoyed a strong and enduring
1-12 relationship with his wife, Letha, and was a loving father to his
1-13 four daughters; in addition, he was a longtime member of Mt. Horeb
1-14 Baptist Church; and
1-15 WHEREAS, Jerome Vernon Valentine was a man of honor and
1-16 integrity, and though his guidance and devotion will be missed by
1-17 all who knew him, his spirit will surely live on in the hearts and
1-18 minds of the many people whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be
1-19 it
1-20 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
1-21 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Jerome Vernon
1-22 Valentine and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:
1-23 to his wife, Letha Valentine; to his daughters, Sheniqua Johnson,
1-24 Stephene Dunbar, Cristal Valentine, and Taletha Valentine; to his
2-1 brothers, Roosevelt Valentine, Jr., Arthur Earl Valentine, and
2-2 Johnnie Lee Johnson; to his sister, Brenda Garrett Johnson; and to
2-3 the many other relatives and friends of this beloved man; and, be
2-4 it further
2-5 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-6 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-7 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-8 Jerome Vernon Valentine.
