No. 436 76R8737 GMW-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Marshall Lee Anderson of Tenaha on 1-2 February 6, 1999, at the age of 80, brought a great loss to the 1-3 family and many friends of this distinguished gentleman; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Mr. Anderson was a native of Malta, graduating from 1-5 high school in De Kalb and attending East Texas Baptist University 1-6 in Marshall; he served with distinction as a naval bomber pilot 1-7 during World War II, flying B-24 Liberators in North Africa and 1-8 Europe; and 1-9 WHEREAS, In 1945 he moved to Tenaha, where he owned and 1-10 operated a sawmill for nearly 50 years; Mr. Anderson also donated 1-11 his time as a deacon at First Baptist Church and was a charter 1-12 member of American Legion Post 520, serving that organization as 1-13 post commander for more than 30 years; and 1-14 WHEREAS, A former president of the local school board, 1-15 Mr. Anderson was instrumental in the construction of Tiger Stadium, 1-16 and served several times as president of the Tiger Quarterback 1-17 Club; in addition, he was a vital member of the Tenaha 1-18 Businessmen's Club for more than 50 years, a lifetime trustee for 1-19 East Texas Baptist University, and a longtime board member of the 1-20 Southern Forest Products Association; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Although Mr. Anderson will be deeply missed, his 1-22 spirit will live on in the hearts and minds of all those fortunate 1-23 enough to have known him, and it is indeed fitting to honor his 1-24 memory at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-2 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Marshall Lee Anderson 2-3 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his 2-4 wife, Joan Gilpin Anderson; to his sons and daughters-in-law, David 2-5 and Elizabeth Anderson, Bob and Karen Anderson, and Mark and Sandy 2-6 Anderson; to his sister and brother-in-law, Viola and Bill Lewis; 2-7 and to his grandchildren; and, be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-9 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-10 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-11 Marshall Lee Anderson.
