                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Opal Jones is being recognized by the Dallas Alumnae
 1-2     Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., for her exemplary
 1-3     performance as society editor and columnist for the Dallas Post
 1-4     Tribune, and she is indeed worthy of special recognition for this
 1-5     achievement; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Ms. Jones has been associated with the Post Tribune
 1-7     for 10 years, and during her decade of service she has proven
 1-8     herself to be  a consistently outstanding writer and editor; she is
 1-9     the recipient of a number of accolades, including the 1990 Zeta
1-10     Woman of the Year award and the 1990 Top Lady of the Year award,
1-11     and she was also named a Black Living Legend by the Junior Black
1-12     Academy in 1995; and
1-13           WHEREAS, One of the founders of the Washington/Lincoln Alumni
1-14     Association, this treasured individual is a life member of Jack and
1-15     Jill and an associate of that organization's Dallas chapter; and
1-16           WHEREAS, Honoring our African American women artists for
1-17     their artistic accomplishments is an appropriate salute to National
1-18     Women's History Month, and it is with great pleasure that we
1-19     recognize Opal Jones for her achievements at this time; now,
1-20     therefore, be it
1-21           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
1-22     Legislature hereby pay tribute to Opal Jones for her civic and
1-23     literary contributions to her fellow citizens and extend to her
1-24     warmest best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it
 2-1     further
 2-2           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-3     prepared for Ms. Jones as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 2-4     House of Representatives.
