R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Rosalyn M. Story of Dallas has distinguished herself 1-2 in the fields of music and journalism, and her many contributions 1-3 to the Texas arts are indeed worthy of special legislative 1-4 recognition; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A renowned violinist, Ms. Story began her career in 1-6 music at the University of Missouri in Kansas City; since that 1-7 time, she has studied with Kato Havas in London, toured Europe with 1-8 the Greek Hellenophile Orchestra and Chorus, and performed with 1-9 philharmonic groups from Kansas City to Austria; and 1-10 WHEREAS, This talented musician is currently associated with 1-11 the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and the Dallas Opera Orchestra, 1-12 in addition to her roles as tutor and mentor in violin instruction 1-13 at Brookhaven College; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Ms. Story is also an accomplished writer who has 1-15 been published in a number of periodicals, including Stagebill, 1-16 Essence, and the Dallas Observer; she has won the Betty Green 1-17 Fiction Award, composed the liner notes for a number of musical 1-18 recordings and issues, and authored the highly respected AND SO I 1-19 SING: African-American Divas of Opera and Concert; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Her talent and deep love for the arts have earned 1-21 her positions on several important panels, from the National 1-22 Endowment for the Arts in Washington, D.C., to the Texas Commission 1-23 on the Arts in Austin, and she has made numerous guest appearances 1-24 on public radio; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Ms. Story will be honored at a luncheon in Dallas on 2-2 March 21, 1999, when the Dallas Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma 2-3 Theta Sorority, Inc., hosts a celebration for National Women's 2-4 History Month to recognize African American women artists; in light 2-5 of her many accomplishments and vast talent, Ms. Story is most 2-6 deserving of commendation at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-8 Legislature hereby honor violinist and author Rosalyn M. Story and 2-9 extend to her best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, 2-10 be it further 2-11 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-12 prepared for Ms. Story as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-13 House of Representatives.
